If you go to your "control panel" ( or "devices and printers"), you can change the default settings on your printer to draft and print in grayscale (or black and white). By setting to default, you won't ever print using a lot of ink again. I'd say about 90% of what I print can be done in draft (including OOFs), saving a ton of ink! Make sure you change the default settings for all the computers in your home/network!

Yes- some printers "draft" isn't good enough. But I also print most everything in draft. I still do color.

It is important to optimize your printer settings. Usually the best quality isn't needed. Also printing in color too often can drain money.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does it mean to set "Draft" and "Black & White" as default printer settings?

Setting "Draft" and "Black & White" as your default printer settings means that every time you print a document, it will automatically use these settings unless you change them. "Draft" mode typically uses less ink and prints faster, while "Black & White" ensures that your documents are printed in grayscale, which can save color ink.

How can I change my printer settings to "Draft" and "Black & White"?

You can change your printer settings by going to your computer's Control Panel or System Preferences, selecting "Printers & Scanners," choosing your printer, and then accessing the printer properties. From there, you can set the default print quality to "Draft" and the color option to "Black & White."

Why should I use "Draft" mode for printing?

Using "Draft" mode is beneficial for printing documents that do not require high-quality output, such as internal memos or rough drafts. It saves ink and speeds up the printing process, making it a cost-effective choice for everyday printing tasks.

Will printing in "Black & White" affect the quality of my documents?

Printing in "Black & White" can affect the quality of images and color documents, as they will be rendered in grayscale. However, for text documents, the quality is usually sufficient for readability. If color is essential for your document, you may want to switch back to color printing for those specific cases.

Can I still print in color if I set "Black & White" as my default?

Yes, you can still print in color even if "Black & White" is set as your default. You can change the settings for individual print jobs by selecting the color option in the print dialog box before printing a specific document.
