I was printing some forms this morning when the electric went off from the storm. Turned computer back on but now printer will not work. It's getting power but doesn't seem to be getting the message from the computer. Any suggestions?

Try unplugging the USB cord that goes from the printer to the computer, or re-starting the computer as well.

Yes unplug everything (even from the wall) and try again.

Hi there! I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing printer problems after the power outage. This can definitely be frustrating, but I'm here to help troubleshoot the issue. First, I would recommend checking all of the connections between your computer and printer to make sure they are secure. Sometimes, power outages can cause cables to become loose. If everything is connected properly, try restarting both your computer and printer. This can often solve any communication issues between the two.If the issue persists, you may need to reinstall the printer driver on your computer. You can usually find this on the manufacturer's website or on the installation CD that came with your printer. Simply follow the instructions to reinstall the driver and see if that resolves the issue. If none of these solutions work, it's possible that the power outage may have caused damage to the printer. In this case, I would recommend contacting the manufacturer for further assistance or possibly bringing it in for repairs.I hope these suggestions help and you're able to get your printer back up and running soon. Let me know if you have any further questions or if you need additional support. Take care!

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I do first if my printer won't turn on after a power outage?

First, check if the printer is properly plugged into a working power outlet. Ensure that the power cord is securely connected to both the printer and the outlet. If the outlet is controlled by a switch, make sure it is turned on. If the printer still doesn't turn on, try plugging it into a different outlet.

How can I reset my printer after a power outage?

To reset your printer, unplug it from the power source and wait for about 60 seconds. This allows any residual power to dissipate. After waiting, plug the printer back in and turn it on. This can help clear any errors that may have occurred due to the power outage.

Why is my printer showing an error message after a power outage?

Error messages can occur due to corrupted settings or incomplete print jobs caused by the power outage. Check the printer's display for specific error codes and refer to the user manual for troubleshooting steps. You may also need to clear the print queue on your computer.

What if my printer is connected to a surge protector?

If your printer is connected to a surge protector, ensure that the surge protector is functioning properly. Check if the reset button on the surge protector has tripped and reset it if necessary. If the surge protector is faulty, try connecting the printer directly to the wall outlet.

Can a power outage damage my printer?

Yes, power outages can potentially damage printers, especially if there are power surges when the power returns. If you suspect damage, check for any physical signs, such as burnt smells or unusual noises. If the printer is not functioning correctly after troubleshooting, it may need to be serviced or replaced.
