I know someone out there can help me! I need a substitution for half and half. I'm using it in a recipe for mini quiches. Could I use whole milk instead? I've never made this recipe before, so I won't know if it doesn't taste like it's supposed to!:D Thanks!

I've always been told to sub evaporated milk for half and half or cream in recipes. HTH

Substitutions
For 1 cup half and half use:
3/4 cup whole milk + 1/4 cup heavy cream
2/3 cup skim or low-fat milk + 1/3 cup heavy cream

I'm sure this reply is probably way too late, but the recipe for the Savory Mini Quiches in the All The Best cookbook just calls for regular milk. I've made it several times with just 1% milk.

If you need a question answered QUICK, call your local library or check to see if you can find your answer at this website -- The Internet Public Library: http://www.ipl.org/.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use half and half instead of whole milk in a mini quiche recipe?

Yes, you can use half and half instead of whole milk in a mini quiche recipe. It will make the quiche richer and creamier due to the higher fat content.

Will substituting half and half change the texture of the mini quiche?

Substituting half and half for whole milk will result in a creamier texture, which many people find desirable. However, it may also make the quiche a bit denser.

How much half and half should I use if the recipe calls for whole milk?

You can use the same amount of half and half as the amount of whole milk called for in the recipe. For example, if the recipe requires 1 cup of whole milk, you can substitute it with 1 cup of half and half.

Will the flavor of the mini quiche change with half and half?

The flavor may be slightly richer and creamier with half and half, but it should not drastically change the overall taste of the mini quiche. It can enhance the flavor profile, especially if you are adding cheese or other ingredients.

Is there a difference in cooking time when using half and half instead of whole milk?

There is typically no significant difference in cooking time when using half and half instead of whole milk. Just be sure to keep an eye on the quiche as it bakes, as the higher fat content may cause it to brown slightly faster.
