The discussion centers on the high costs associated with ink cartridges for home printing, particularly for flyers and order forms. Participants share strategies to reduce ink usage, such as using draft quality settings, switching to laser printers, and utilizing colored paper for organization. Tools mentioned include HP R60 and Epson all-in-one printers, with a recommendation for Inksmile.com for affordable ink alternatives. The consensus is that laser printers, while initially more expensive, offer long-term savings due to lower cartridge replacement frequency.

In host packets themselves I print the host/guest special on draft on my printer along with OOF. Most of the time however I print them out at work and use the copier. I don't pay for copies that way.
hoosierchef said:OMG. I would be canned if I got caught doing that. I admit, I print something out occassionally, but usually just one or two sheets of something. I know they fired a lady from my job years ago for doing something like this.
It's bad enough that I'm on here during office hours, but I can get away with this easier!![]()

chefann said:I print mine in black and white on my laser printer. If I want them to be noticeable, I use colored paper. That also helps me identify which month the page is for if I have several months in a folder (like to add to generic host packs): pale blue is April, pink is May, bright yellow is June, etc.
button92 said:check Ebay for your ink and printer supplies. 1 cartridge would cost me about $25 at Walmart or Office Max, on Ebay I can get about 24 cartridges. I have an Epson all in one that takes 4 different cartridges. this way it doesn't bother me so much when I go thru alot of ink. HTH

Take them to OfficeMax or Office Depot, and use your PC discount. They'll be pretty reasonable, especially if they're black and white. If you want them to have more impact, have them copied onto colored paper. And buy 2 reams of it and tell the person at the counter that you want them copied onto it (or load it into the self-serve copiers yourself) - it'll be cheaper than paying the colored paper upgrade charge.
Ink cartridges can be costly due to several factors, including the research and development costs associated with creating high-quality ink, the manufacturing process, and the marketing expenses. Additionally, many printer manufacturers sell their printers at a low price but make a profit on the ink cartridges, which can lead to higher costs for consumers.
To save money on ink cartridges, consider using high-yield cartridges that contain more ink and offer a lower cost per page. You can also look for compatible or remanufactured cartridges, which are often cheaper than brand-name options. Additionally, printing in draft mode or using black and white for non-essential documents can help conserve ink.
Yes, there are several alternatives to purchasing new ink cartridges. You can refill your existing cartridges at home or at a local refill station, which can be more cost-effective. Another option is to invest in a continuous ink supply system (CISS), which allows for bulk ink usage and reduces the frequency of cartridge replacement.
Investing in a printer with lower ink costs can be worthwhile, especially if you print frequently. Printers designed for high-volume printing often have lower-cost ink options and may come with features that help manage ink usage more efficiently. Be sure to calculate the total cost of ownership, including the price of ink, when choosing a printer.
If your printer is not recognizing a new cartridge, first ensure that the cartridge is properly installed and that any protective tape has been removed. Restarting the printer can also help. If the issue persists, check for firmware updates or consult the printer's manual for troubleshooting steps. In some cases, the cartridge may be defective and may need to be replaced.
