I have several of the new products I am interested and I do not have a Mandoline
I have the USG

What do you all think of the Mandoline compared to the USG

I am trying to decide if I want to do a little catalog show so I can get the Mandoline or wait until Kit Enhancement month

I LOVE the mandoline. I like that it's safer (because I'm a total spaz) and I like the new crinkle blade. I also like the legs on it. I hadn't had the USG for THAT long, so I didn't get to know it REALLY well, but I do like the mandoline better. I hear a lot of people who had and loved the USG don't like the mandoline as well. I say DO IT! 60% off is better than 40% off! And if you find out you don't like it that well...then you can use it as an incentive for your hosts! *All April show hosts get entered in a drawing to win a FREE Ultimate Mandoline!

I like it a lot better than the USG. It is a lot safer, and there is a lot more contol when slicing because the food holder glides on the mandoline instead of hovering above it. I never used my julienne blade so I don't miss it- but I love the crinkle blade on the mandoline. Also I feel a lot safer with the blades in the box instead of stored below since I was cut that way. It is a lot bulkier to store than the US&G though...

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the Mandoline and the Ultimate Slice Grater (USG)?

The Mandoline is designed for precise slicing and can create various thicknesses, making it ideal for tasks like julienning and creating uniform slices. The Ultimate Slice Grater (USG), on the other hand, is primarily used for grating and shredding, offering a more versatile approach for different textures but not the same slicing precision.

Which tool is better for slicing vegetables?

The Mandoline is generally better for slicing vegetables due to its adjustable settings that allow for consistent thickness and various slicing styles. If your primary need is to slice vegetables quickly and uniformly, the Mandoline would be the preferred choice.

Is the Mandoline easier to clean than the USG?

The Mandoline can be more challenging to clean due to its multiple parts and sharp blades, which require careful handling. The USG, with its simpler design, is often easier to clean, as it typically has fewer components and can be rinsed off quickly after use.

Can I achieve the same results with the USG as with the Mandoline?

While the USG is versatile and can handle grating and shredding well, it does not offer the same slicing precision as the Mandoline. If you need specific slice thicknesses or styles, the Mandoline is the better option. However, for general grating and shredding tasks, the USG is sufficient.

Which tool is more suitable for a beginner cook?

The Ultimate Slice Grater (USG) may be more suitable for beginner cooks due to its straightforward design and ease of use. The Mandoline requires a bit more skill and caution, especially when adjusting settings and handling sharp blades. Beginners might find the USG less intimidating and more user-friendly.
