Urgent Find Your Perfect Wedding Song | Country & Non-Country Options Available

In summary, the wedding went well and there were no major issues. Achy breaky heart by Bill Ray Cyrus was played at the end as the dance song.

I am getting married in less than a month and we still thought of a 'first dance' song. I'd like to have a song that was never that popular (preferably country). Like maybe a song that was on a CD, but never on the radio. Or a song on a CD that hasn't been on the radio. I've been searching for ever for one, but with no luck. Then as a kick in the face, my best friend found one that she's going to use in her wedding in 9 months!!! It's Lady Antebellum - Can't Take My Eyes Off You.. It's gorgeous! If I didn't love her so much, I'd steal it (haha). So maybe you country music fans who have some of the artists' CDs can throw me some ideas. I'd also appreciate any suggestions that aren't country! Thanks a lot! I am desperate!!!

clay walker - "thats us"
its beautiful. & i hadnt ever heard it on the radio.

ill think of some more..

its from his "rumor has it" cd.
here are the lyrics:

Sometimes I ignore reality
But baby that's me
I've always been a dreamer
You'd rather face the cold head truth
But baby that's you, you called it like you see it
Half the time my head's up in the clouds
And you're the only thing that keeps me on the ground

That's us
As different as the night and day
That's us
But the good Lord had planned it that way
That's love
He looked down and knew
A man would need a woman's touch
Two souls come together and make one
That's us

And when I feel I just can't go on
The dreams have come and gone
I know you'll always be there
And when that old cold truth is hard to face
I'll carry you away
Years from now I'll still care
In rockin' chairs we'll share old memories
Made up of part of you and part of me

That's us
As different as the night and day
That's us
But the good Lord had planned it that way
That's love
He looked down and knew
A man would need a woman's touch
Two souls come together and make one
That's us

Sorry, the only song I can think of is mine and DH's wedding song "When you say nothing at all" by Allison Krauss (sp). There is a version that a man sing's that I have only heard once ont he radio.

The song "When God Made You" is really nice...

HTH

Sorry...these aren't country...more Contemporary Christian. Listen to When God Made You, though...I think it has a country vibe to it.

michelle featherstone has a song called "we are man & wife."
its not really country. but a perfect weddding song.

Lyrics:
All the things you are to me
Darling you have set me free
I'll always give you what you need
and what you deserve
All the joy and all this love
I know that it is from above
and now together there is enough
to fill this world
Cause you are the love of my life
you are the love of my life
and now we are man and wife
Of all the things that you will do
Yet now I'm standing next to you
Darling I will see you through
the rest of our lives
With you beside me I am one
I'm glad I've waited for so long
there is no doubt that
you are the one for me
Cause you are the love of my life
you are the love of my life
There'll be times
and there'll be things
but everything
is going to be fine
now your in my life
So I give you my heart and soul
It's yours to take where ever you go
and through the years you'll always know
it's yours to keep
God has blessed this sacred vow
and angels high above look down
they see the two of us have found
the perfect love
Cause you are the love of my life
Yeah you are the love of my life
and now we are man and wife

We danced to Alison Krause "When You Say Nothing At All" - I hear it on the radio from time to time.

I was torn between that one and one from Tracy Lawrence "Keeper of the Stars".

i LOVE keeper of the stars. thats a really good one too.

ps. i just googled "country wedding songs" & achy breaky heart by bill ray cyrus came up.

ummmmm...? haha.

Okay, I'm going to throw this out there -- but please don't anyone boo me.

I'm a very organized person. Our wedding went smoothly, everyone was where they needed to be when they needed to be there. Got through dinner and mingling without any problems and then the band (my parents idea, they could have saved a ton of money and made US much happier by having a DJ) asked us what our first dance song was going to be. When I looked at my new husband he had the same deer in the headlights look as I had -- neither one of us had even thought about this.

Keep in mind, this is a band, not a DJ. Had there been recorded music, we probably could have come up with something in a heartbeat. So, we say to the band "what do other people ask for". They threw out a few songs and we decided on "Could I Have This Dance", a song made popular by Anne Murray.

To be fair, we laugh about it every time the song comes on the radio. But it is a beautiful song.

I'll always remember,
the song they were playing,
The first time we danced and I knew

As we swayed to the music,
and held to each other,
I fell in love with you

Chorus:
Could I have this dance
for the rest of my life,
Could you be my partner
every night,
when we're together
it feels so right,
Could I have this dance
for the rest of my life

I'll always remember,
that magic moment,
When I held you close to me

As we move together,
I knew forever,
your all I'll ever need

Could I have this dance
for the rest of my life,
Could you be my partner
every night,
when we're together
it feels so right,
Could I have this dance
for the rest of my life

Could I have this dance
for the rest of my life,
Could you be my partner
every night,
when we're together
it feels so right,
Could I have this dance
for the rest --of --my life!!

Our wedding song four years ago was "I Do (Cherish You)" by Mark Wills. I love this song and I don't hear it alot on the radio.

Here are the lyrics:

All I am, all I'll be
Everything in this world, all that I'll ever need
Is in your eyes, shining at me
When you smile I can feel all my passion unfolding

Your hand brushes mine
And a thousand sensations seduce me 'cause I

I do, cherish you
For the rest of my life
You don't have to think twice
I will, love you still, from the depths of my soul
It's beyond my control
I've waited so long to say this to you
If you're asking do I love you this much, I do

In my world before you
I lived outside my emotions
Didn't know where I was going
Until that day I found you
How you opened my life to a new paradise

In a world torn by change
Still with all of my heart, until my dying day

I do, cherish you
For the rest of my life
You don't have to think twice
I will, love you still, from the depths of my soul
It's beyond my control
I've waited so long to say this to you
If you're asking do I love you this much, yes I do

I've waited so long to say this to you
So, if you're asking if I love you this much, I do
Oh, I do

DH wanted our song to be "She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy"....but my better judgement won out, and instead we chose a song by Clint Black.....(duet with his wife)

SOMETHING THAT WE DO

I remember well the day we wed
I can see that picture in my head
I still believe the words we said
Forever will ring true
Love is certain, love is kind
Love is yours and love is mine
But it isn't something that we find
It's something that we do
It's holding tight, lettin' go
It's flying high and laying low
Let your strongest feelings show
And your weakness, too
It's a little and a lot to ask
An endless and a welcome task
Love isn't something that we have
It's something that we do
We help to make each other all that we can be
Though we can find our strength and inspiration independently
The way we work together is what sets our love apart
So closely that you can't tell where I end and where you start
It gives me heart remembering how
We started with a simple vow
There's so much to look back on now
Still it feels brand-new
We're on a road that has no end
And each day we begin again
Love's not just something that we're in
It's something that we do
We help to make each other all that we can be
Though we can find our strength and inspiration independently
The way we work together is what sets our love apart
So closely that you can't tell where I end and where you start
Love is wide, love is long
Love is deep and love is strong
Love is why I love this song
And I hope you love it too
I remember well the day we wed
I can see that picture in my head
Love isn't just those words we said
It's something that we do
There's no request too big or small
We give ourselves, we give our all
Love isn't someplace that we fall
It's something that we do

"Grow Old With Me" By Mary Chapin Carpenter. I love this song. Did you know that John Lennon wrote it?

Edited to say: Our wedding song was "Amazed" by Lonestar. Eh. It's okay. My husband wanted "Angel Eyes" by the Jeff Healy Band, he thinks it's "our"
song. What he doesn't know is that it was "our" song with every guy I've been out with. It is (well, it was in college) one of my favorites.

DH always said he wanted us to dance to "Closer" by Nine Inch Nails for our 1st song. You know, the one that goes "I want to **** you like an animal." Yeah. Real wedding appropriate.

NO WAY!!! He must be related to DH - that's the other one he wanted! I think that must be the epitome of romance for guys - even when we were dating he would tell me he thought of me when that song came on the radio....fishing in the dark - a man's ultimate fantasy!

My wedding song was "Two Steps Behind) - Acoustic version, by Def Leppard. Not country but very beautiful:"Two Steps Behind (Acoustic Version)"Walk away if you want to
it's ok, if you need to
you can run, but you can never hide
From the shadow that's creeping up beside you
There's a magic running through your soul
But you can't have it all(Whatever you do)
I'll be two steps behind you
(Wherever you go)
and I'll be there to remind you
that it only takes a minute of your precious time
to turn around and I'll be two steps behind.Take the time
to think about it
Walk the line, you know you just can't fight it
Take a look around and see what you can find
Like the fire that's burning up inside me,
There's a magic running through your soul
But you can't have it all(Whatever you do)
I'll be two steps behind you
(Wherever you go)
and I'll be there to remind you
that it only takes a minute of your precious time
to turn around and I'll be two steps behind. There's a magic running through your soul
but you, you can't have it all
(Whatever you do)
I'll be two steps behind you
(wherever you go)
and I'll be there to remind you
that it only takes a minute of your precious time
To turn around and I'll be two steps behind. Two steps behind
yeah, baby
two steps behind
ohh, sugar
two steps behind

Right after we started dating, DH and I fell in love with the Diamond Rio song "I Know How The River Feels" and that was our first dance at our wedding. To this day it's my FAVORITE song, and it perfectly sums up how you feel when you meet the person you'll spend the rest of your life with. It's a country song and I don't think it was ever played on the radio much, if at all...but it's on one of their albums (Unbelievable, I think).

They say for everyone there's that perfect one
Out there somewhere.
I've been looking hard searching every heart
Getting nowhere.
Didn't know I was making my way to you...

Chorus:
Now I know how the river feels
When it reaches the sea,
And finally finds the place
It was always meant to be.
Holding fast, home at last,
Knowing my journey is through...
Lying here with you,
I know how the river feels.

Miles of loneliness now make perfect sense
Here beside you.
Tears like water fall, it was worth them all
Just to find you.
And yours are the last arms I'll run to...

Chorus repeats.

DH & I were totally non-traditional in our wedding reception! We are HUGE Jimmy Buffett fans (even invited him to come...imagine that we never heard back~) and "our song" was Come Monday....so that is what we danced to for our first dance.
Now, mind you , the reception was open bar and lots of Jamacain Rum Punch was flowing, so around 4 hours after the party started, we got to dance to "Why Don't We Get Drunk......"

We have vowed that the kids don't EVER get to see the video!

This is also another beautiful song. I haven't heard the version by Mary Chapin Carpenter. But I have heard it sung by Trish Yearwood.

Grow old along with me
The best is yet to be
When our time has come
We will be as one
God bless our love
God bless our love
Grow old along with me
Two branches of one tree
Face the setting sun
When the day is done
God bless our love
God bless our love
Spending our lives together
Man and wife together
World without end
World without end
Grow old along with me
Whatever fate decrees
We will see it through
For our love is true
God bless our love
God bless our love

My DH & I danced to Feels Like Home by LeAnn Rimes. It's on her cd "Sittin' on Top of the World"In Your Eyes
I find the answers to my questions.
In your arms,
I've found the world I've waited for.
In your touch
I found everything I ever needed
I need nothing more
Always dreamed of a day when a dream would find me
Now my dreams beside me
You are in my lifeIn your arms I know I belong
I've never known this feeling, no
but it feels like home.
In your eyes I know what I can be
you opened up your heart ot me and it feels like hoime
when I'm with you baby it feels like homeAll this time
when there was not much to believe in
I kept my faith that you were waiting there for me
I've searched this world and now the search is finally over
I found the one I need
Always hoped for the day when my heart would find you
now my heart's beside you
you are in my lifeIn your arms I know where I belong
I never known this feeling oh
but it feels like home
IN your eyes I know what I can be
you've opened up your heart to me and it feels like homeIt doesn't matter where I've been or what I've been though
Cuz I know that I been waiting every day of my life to be with you
to be with youIn your arms I know where i belong
I've never known this feeling before
but it feels like home
In your eyes I know what I can be
you've open up your heart to me.
When I'm with you baby it feels like home.

Okay - that wasn't the one that was the duet with his wife (Lisa Hartman-Black)....this is the one that was the duet....and I would have liked this one at my reception too......

WHEN I SAID I DO

These times are troubled and these times are good
And they're always gonna be, they rise and they fall
We take 'em all the way that we should
Together you and me forsaking them all
Deep in the night and by the light of day
It always looks the same, true love always does
And here by your side, or a million miles away
Nothin's ever gonna change the way that I feel,
The way it is, is the way that it was

When I said I do, I meant that I will 'til the end of all time
Be faithful and true, devoted to you
That's what I had in mind when I said I do

Well this old world keeps changin', and the world stays the same
For all who came before, and it goes hand and hand
Only you and I can undo all that we became
That makes us so much more, than a woman and a man
And after everything that comes and goes around
Has only passed us by, here alone in our dreams
I know there's a lonely heart in every lost and found
But forever you and I will be the ones
Who found out what forever means

When I said I do, I meant that I will 'til the end of all time
Be faithful and true, devoted to you
That's what I had in mind when I said I do

Truer than true, you know that I'll always be there for you
That's what I had in mind, that's what I had in mind,
When I said I do

Years ago.... I remember we didn't give it much thought. Time came, I asked if we had "Love Itis" but J Geils!! Didn't get that, so we went with a classic, "When a man loves a woman." I guess it was more of Motown thing.

Keith Whitley was the original singer. He and Lori Morgan were married a few years when he died from alcohol poisoning at the young age of 33.

Some of his songs:

When You Say Nothing At All
Don't Close Your Eyes
I'm No Stranger To The Rain

Sorry for the hijack. I'm a huge fan of Keith and his voice just sends chills all through me. It always saddens me to see someone with so much leave so soon.

Here's how much of a sap I am. I'm sitting in my hotel room, alone and lonely, crying  as I read all these lryics. Can't wait to go home tomorrow...

Our song was/is True Companion by Marc Cohn.

True Companion - Marc Cohn (sorry, too lazy to correct the capitalization/errors below...)

Baby i've been searching like everybody else
Can't say nothing different about myself
Sometimes i'm an angel
And sometimes i'm cruel
And when it comes to love
I'm just another fool
Yes, i'll climb a mountain
I'm gonna swim the sea
There ain't no act of god girl
Could keep you safe from me
My arms are reaching out
Out across this canyon
I'm asking you to be my true companion
True companion
True companion

So don't you dare and try to walk away
I've got my heart set on our wedding day
I've got this vision of a girl in white
Made my decision that it's you allright
And when i take your hand
I'll watch my heart set sail
I'll take my trembling fingers

And i'll lift up your veil
Then i'll take you home
And with wild abandon
Make love to you just like a true companion
You are my true companion
I got a true companion
True companion

When the years have done irreparable harm
I can see us walking slowly arm in arm
Just like the couple on the corner do
'cause girl i will always be in love with you
And when i look in your eyes
I'll still see that spark
Until the shadows fall
Until the room grows dark
Then when i leave this earth
I'll be with the angels standin'
I'll be out there waiting for my true companion
Just for my true companion
True companion
True companion
