Do I Need a Vendor's License to Sell at a Fair?

In summary, in order to sell at a fair, you will most likely need a vendor's license. This can be obtained by contacting your local government or fair organizer, as the process and cost vary by location. While some states may have exemptions for small businesses or certain goods, it is important to research the laws and regulations in your specific location to see if you qualify. It is also important to note that selling at a fair without a vendor's license is a violation of the law and can result in fines or legal action.

Do I need a vendor's license to have a booth at a fair? I've never thought about it before, but a fair I am planning to work had it on the registration form. And, if I don't need it, does anyone know if my mom, who is a (brand new) crafter, is going to need one? Any input would be helpful.
Thanks,
Jane :)

I have done tons of fairs that did not require them, but one that did. Just contact HO and they will email you a copy you can print. (If you really need one)

Do you know if crafters need a license if they don't charge tax?

Hi Jane,Great question! The requirement for a vendor's license can vary depending on the specific fair or event you are planning to attend. I recommend reaching out to the fair organizers directly to inquire about their policies and any necessary licenses or permits. As for your mom, it's always best to err on the side of caution and check with the event organizers as well. They will be able to provide you with the most accurate information.I hope this helps and good luck at the fair!Best,
