Question for everyone:
We have an associate who is running for an elected office & asked if we could run a PC Fundraiser with the proceeds going to her campaign fund. Our upline says it's OK but wanted to check on here too to see if anyone knows anything different. Thanks!
 
I was thinking that it was for non-profit organizations, but I could be wrong. I'll see if I can find anything in my policies manual unless you've had a chance to look!
 
Something tells me that you cannot due a fundraiser for an individual.

That is where we're confused. You can raise funds for an individual as long as there is a bank account set up. People have talked about doing for a childs special lessons or school for health reasons, etc. This would be made out to the campaign fund so it's not really for her personally. I've left a call in for HO but don't know if they can really answer us either. It would be great for her if we could do it because we're going to run it in conjunction with several fundraiser events she has going & it would definitely help us too!!!! I hope we find out something soon since the first function is this Saturday.
 
I knew I read it somewhere--thanks Becky D! I was going to cut and paste the part about not doing it for individuals but couldn't remember where I saw the part about policitical organizations. I guess I haven't completely "lost it" yet!

We saw that but it's not a political organization it's someone running for an office. Thin line but there is a difference.

Yes, I just saw this...glad you are calling HO.

I would think individuals running for office wouldn't qualify because depending on what office they are running for they may have a stated political leaning which may not be in line with Berkshire Hathway.

I could see them MAYBE authorizing it if it was Town Constable or Town Clerk or something, but anything beyond that I doubt it and I would think overall they'd say "no".

...just wanted to say that this is interesting...

I keep seeing MANY times where uplines are giving answers that are potentially not right. I'm glad you are checking further before you proceed.

I have to be thankful mine will not give an answer unless she has a specific policy to back it up and does encourage us all to call directly to HO for an answer on things.
 
Also, I'd ask to speak to a supervisor and write down his/her name, just to be on the safe side...

Finally talked to HO. The answer is yes you can. You can run a fundraiser for just about anything as long as there is a seperate account for it. You can't do one for a cause that is controversial. Since this person is running for Clerk of the Court that is fine.:sing:

Maybe if it's for a specific political party, and so would look like PC is endorsing one party over another......

Well, the example they gave me I don't want to post because it might offend someone. But I guess the sky is the limit within reason.
