I've started to see lots of commercials for this. Has anyone purchased this? Know anything about it? Is it like Skype?

It looks intriguing. I have my current phone service through our cable company and will go up next month after the introductory period.

Anytime I can save money...that's a good thing :)

I just saw this the other day too, haven't heard anything about it as far as reviews. Would be interesting to know though.

Is it Comcast? Call them and tell them you want the intro rate back. I just called and they reinstated it for me. :D

Nope, Cox. I had a 3 month intro rate, then it goes up.

I just got majic jack at the begining of June! I like it. The only thing was I had to change my number but it gave me a reason to contact my customers! The other thing I don't like is that if your screen saver turns on or the energy saver turns your monitor off after so long your phone will not ring! You have to enable those settings on your computer. Aside from those things it's nice and cheap too!

I just signed with ACN, which is like Vonage, Skype, etc. I love it so far. And it's only $23.99 a month (less than Vonage). I, too, had to change my phone #...a bit of a pain, since I now have to get new magnets for my car, new stamps for my literature and make sure EVERYONE know the new #.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is MagicJack and how does it work?

MagicJack is a VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) device that allows users to make phone calls over the internet. It connects to your computer or directly to your router, enabling you to use a standard phone to make calls. Users purchase the device and subscribe to a service plan that typically offers unlimited calling within the U.S. and Canada.

How does MagicJack compare to Skype in terms of cost?

MagicJack generally offers a more straightforward pricing model with a one-time purchase of the device and an annual subscription fee, which can be more economical for frequent users. Skype, on the other hand, operates on a pay-as-you-go basis for calls to landlines and mobile phones, which can be more expensive if you make a lot of calls. However, Skype offers free calls between Skype users, which can be a significant cost-saving feature.

What are the main advantages of using MagicJack?

Some advantages of using MagicJack include its low-cost service, ease of use, and the ability to keep your existing phone number. Additionally, it offers features like voicemail, call waiting, and caller ID, making it a comprehensive solution for home phone service.

Are there any drawbacks to using MagicJack?

Yes, some drawbacks include potential call quality issues that can arise from poor internet connections, limited customer support, and the requirement for an internet connection to function. Additionally, MagicJack may not be suitable for users who frequently travel internationally, as its service is primarily designed for U.S. and Canadian calls.

What do users generally say in their reviews about MagicJack?

User reviews of MagicJack are mixed. Many appreciate the cost savings and ease of setup, while others report issues with call quality and customer service. Some users also mention that while it works well for domestic calls, international calling can be less reliable. Overall, it’s important to consider personal needs and experiences when evaluating its effectiveness.
