Would you please tell me what you all say in reference to the following:

* If I ask people to write their name and favorite product on their name tag, how do I make reference to it afterwards, or can I just let them do the talking (is it an ice breaker in and of itself?)?

* When I ask if anyone has never been to a PC show before.... I always feel tongue-tied when someone says they haven't. I don't want to call them PC virgins. Can you share with me what you say to them to make them feel comfortable after I've singled them out?

I'm so excited about my show tonight - it's weird. ha ha. I haven't had a live show in about a month (my September shows hosted themselves and I had a boutique/no demo).

Thanks!!!
Susan :)

To answer your second question, I say something like "Wow! You're in for a treat tonight!"

I say cool then you wont know when I do something wrong!

I always give a new person a Quikut to welcome them and tell them that now they have their first PC product.

For your first question I have the guests say there name and how they know the host, then I have them say there favorite PC product, I say to them and how do you use that, which leads them into saying what they use that product for and then there friends go oh I can see myself using that I need one. As for your second question you can make them feel special because they have never been to a show before let them know that they are in for a real treat and they will learn new and excitig things.

for the first question I have them use their fav product as their last name. Ex: Brooke bar pan.

the best one was Sally all purpose spreader. They way the guest said it not only were all the guests laughing but I was as well.

Brooke, did you have them announce their names or just read each others in passing chatting?

That's funny, because alot of times that's exactly what I do say! When someone says they haven't been to a PC show before - I'll say "Wow! Then tonight you get to be my Pampered Chef Virgin(s)!" Usually - especially with older women, they laugh, and kid each other about how it's been a long time since anyone called them that! I do follow up with "you are in for a real treat tonight - sit back, relax, and get ready for alot of fun and good food!"

I say something similar- along the lines of "Thanks for letting me be your first!!" That way it isn't too dirty if there are kids there, but most adults just crack up!!

How about "thanks for letting me be your first - I promise to be gentle with you"!

(can you tell it's nap time at my house!)

I like that. I might just have to use that at my shows this weekend. But I may combine both statements, because I love the way people laugh when you say so you're a pc virgin.

i love it also!

I say "Welcome to the club of PC junkies! No hazing process, just a free gift" And I also give them a QK paring knife. ;)

When I ask if anyone has never been to a show before, I tell them "Great! I love it when newbies show up." I give first-timers a Twix-It! Clip, then I show them how to use it. To me it's a way to show them that even the little PC products are quality.

I love it Becky!! Hilarious!!

Consider it payback for the myriad of times you have made me laugh out loud while sitting at the computer!;)

I like the idea of giving a little gift. Maybe once I'm in the black!

I do the "virgin" thing too depending on the audience. It was a real hoot with my aunt's show as her MIL was a "virgin"...she must be in her 70s and everyone loved it including her!

I don't know if I could do that with strangers though.

As for the last name game, I have them write it on their tag. That way, not only can I refer to them by name during the show, when I might demo or discuss that product, I can call back on them ;)

Another thought...maybe I will have them start telling why! My opening is usually to ask them to tell their name, how they know the host, if been to a show and one word to describe them in the kitchen. But it might be better to get them talking tools early :D

If a guest appears shy, try to engage them with simple, direct questions that require minimal pressure to answer.
