I can't even find the little icon for the speaker. It is telling me there are no speakers!!! AAAHHHHH!! How do I get them back?? What did I do??

I assume you have power to the speakers. try unplugging the speakers from the computer, then plugging them back in. Reboot the 'puter. See if they are recognized.Robin

Its a laptop. It has built in speakers.

If I have a weird problem like that, I restart my computer.

Start - settings - control panel - sounds and audio devices -

See if mute got turned on and check to have the icon in the toolbar.

If rebooting hasn't fixed it, and your speakers were recognized before, there are several problems. Could be a virus that caused an issue. Could be a loose wire inside. Could be your sound card is going. If you go to the systems page, does it recognize your speakers? Robin

Funny - I hardly ever use the sound on my computer! I can't stand it making noise! The company I worked at before never had sound cards in our computers so I got so use to it:)!! The only time I use it is when I watch a video or listen to music.

Before she goes that in depth, she needs to just check if she accidentally muted them - happens most often! If that doesn't work, then she can go deeper but probably will have to be walked through the steps to check devices.

Well my husband restored my system to this morning before I lost the sound. It was really weird. The little icon disappeared and everything. Its all good. Hopefully it stays that way.

Well, that works too as a quick way to fix it too. :)

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is there no sound coming from my computer?

There could be several reasons for the lack of sound on your computer. Common issues include muted audio settings, disconnected speakers or headphones, outdated audio drivers, or problems with the audio output device. It's important to check each of these factors to identify the root cause.

How can I check if my computer is muted?

To check if your computer is muted, look for the speaker icon in the system tray (bottom right corner of your screen). If the icon has a red circle with a line through it, your sound is muted. Click on the icon to unmute it. You can also adjust the volume slider to ensure it's turned up.

What should I do if my speakers are not connected?

If your speakers are not connected, ensure that they are plugged into the correct audio port on your computer. If you're using external speakers, check the power source and make sure they are turned on. For Bluetooth speakers, ensure that they are paired and connected to your computer.

How do I update my audio drivers?

To update your audio drivers, go to the Device Manager by right-clicking on the Start button and selecting it from the menu. Expand the 'Sound, video and game controllers' section, right-click on your audio device, and select 'Update driver.' Follow the prompts to search for and install any available updates.

What if none of these solutions work?

If you've tried all the above solutions and still have no sound, consider restarting your computer. If the problem persists, you may need to run the audio troubleshooter. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters, and select 'Playing Audio.' Follow the instructions provided to diagnose and fix the issue.
