He is going to have a tough road ahead of him, but with his families help he should come around to a "normal" life again.
My father worked with Del Stayner, father of Steven Stayner (little boy who was kidnaped in Merced in the 70's at age 7 and was found at age 17, his brother Cary, became famous as the man who murdered the tourists in Yosemite back in 1999) and we had been to their home for business parties ans such. When they found Steven, he never really adjusted to his family again and unfortunatly was killed in a motorcycle accident in 1989, he was the drunk driver. The saddest part of that whole case was the kidnapper was never charged with all the malicious acts he did with that boy, he's free to this day.
I hope this guy gets his day in court...and I'm not just talking about the federal system.
Shawn Hornbeck survived his abduction through a combination of factors, including his resilience, the psychological manipulation by his abductor, and the isolation he experienced. He adapted to his circumstances and learned to cope with the environment he was forced into.
Shawn developed coping mechanisms such as creating a routine, finding ways to stay mentally engaged, and maintaining a sense of hope. He also formed a bond with his abductor, which helped him navigate the complexities of his captivity.
During his captivity, Shawn had very limited contact with the outside world. His abductor kept him isolated, and he was not allowed to interact with others, which contributed to his sense of helplessness but also allowed him to remain undetected for years.
Law enforcement conducted numerous searches and investigations during Shawn's abduction, but they were unable to locate him for many years. It wasn't until a tip led them to his abductor that he was finally rescued. This highlights the challenges law enforcement faces in missing persons cases.
After his rescue, Shawn faced significant challenges in adjusting to life outside of captivity. He has spoken publicly about his experiences, advocating for missing children and raising awareness about abduction. His journey of healing has been ongoing, as he works to reclaim his life and identity.
