I'm going to be testing the microwave fluted pan method for the very first time today with the Lemon Cakes. Anyone have any tips for a first-timer???

Also - someone mentioned in the other Lemon Cake post that they used lemon cake mix instead of yellow. Anyone else do this? How is it?

I did the full fluted version according to what was previously posted, except I used 3 eggs in stead of 2. It came out good, according to my guests. I also did it in the oven at 350 for 40-45 min instead of the micro version.

I need the micro version because I want to do it for the demo.

Has anyone done this recipe with chocolate cake and oranges instead of lemons and lemon cake?

I made the lemon cake in the fluted pan last night in the micro for 13 minutes. It cale out really well! It could have used another minute or 2 in the micro, but it was still fine!

I let it sit in the pan for about 5 minutes before I flipped it out on to a (non-PC) platter.

I can't wait to do this at my interactive show at the end of the month!!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a fluted pan, and why is it ideal for making lemon cakes?

A fluted pan, often referred to as a bundt pan, features a distinctive shape with grooves and a central tube. This design allows for even baking and creates beautiful, decorative edges on cakes. The fluted shape also enhances the cake's presentation, making it perfect for special occasions or gatherings.

What ingredients do I need to make a lemon cake in a fluted pan?

To make a lemon cake in a fluted pan, you will typically need flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, eggs, milk, vegetable oil, lemon juice, and lemon zest. You can also add a glaze made from powdered sugar and lemon juice for extra flavor and sweetness.

How do I ensure my lemon cake doesn’t stick to the fluted pan?

To prevent sticking, it’s essential to properly grease and flour the fluted pan before pouring in the batter. You can use cooking spray, butter, or shortening to grease the pan, followed by a light dusting of flour. Alternatively, you can use a non-stick baking spray that contains flour for added convenience.

How long should I bake a lemon cake in a fluted pan?

The baking time for a lemon cake in a fluted pan typically ranges from 40 to 50 minutes at 350°F (175°C). However, it’s important to check for doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center of the cake; it should come out clean or with a few moist crumbs attached.

Can I use a lemon cake recipe from a different type of pan for a fluted pan?

Yes, you can use a lemon cake recipe designed for other types of pans, but you may need to adjust the baking time. Fluted pans often require a longer baking time due to their shape and depth. Always monitor the cake closely and perform the toothpick test to ensure it’s fully baked.
