OH MY GOSH!!! A local TV station did a segment on Ohio's Unclaimed Funds. I was messing around with it putting in names of people I know. Of course I put in mine and my husbands and OH MY GOSH ... we sold a house 4 years ago and there is $853.75 still sitting in escrow. I can't believe it. Why wasn't it sent? They had our new address? Anyway, everybody get on their states Unclaimed Fund site and check it out. You never know what you will find ... take it from me.:)

How cool! I have checked those sites occasionally and I have never been lucky enough to have $$ sitting around!

What are you all going to do with your "surprise?"

I really don't know. I am still in a state of shock. I have also checked the site periodically but I was never there. It must take a while for it to appear. I still don't understand why we never received it. The old mortgate company had our new address. Goes to show they didn't try very hard to find us that is for sure.

What?

That's awful, I can't believe they wouldn't call you to get that money to you. Or at least put it in the mail. That's a nice chunk of change, it wasn't like a couple of bucks. I personally would call the mortgage company to find out what happened. That's horrible customer service.
Wow it's nice to have some unexpected money though. I hope you spend it on something nice for your family. Or bills!

Debbie :D

How do you check?

I went to the site and it said that I might have over $2000 unclaimed. I personally think it's a scam - they want money from me to let me see the results. Please correct me if I am wrong!

Beth, check to see if your state has a local site. Indiana does and apparently Ohio does. Best start would be your State's Website and do a search.

Beth, that happened to me too. However I was not on my state site. Once you find your state site it should do a free check.

Try this site:

www.missingmoney.com

They are contracted with different states for this purpose, and there is no charge. HTH!

Beth,

Our state is free. Go to your state's secretary of state page. We can fill everything out online and we get it in a few weeks. I work for an attorney and we handle it for people all of the time.

I was on there the other day just looking and found my best friend had something on there.

Clarification...

They DO NOT contract with all states, so verify your state is listed.

I just found money for DH from before we were married. Cool!

Newspapers will publish twice a year when money is sitting somewhere for people. I saw my dad's name a couple of years ago and it was money from a life insurance policy in his dad's name and was several thousand dollars back from where we lived in the early 70's - my dad was quite excited to get this found money - so I always check those out as well. I'll have to check out our state's one.

Where would we look if are state/s aren't listed on that site above??

Went to this site... www.missingmoney.com and no unclaimed properety, however went to another and they want 9.95 to see if I have unclaimed money. Is this a rip off? What site would I go to for Minnesota?
Schel

I REPEAT, GO TO YOUR STATE SITE. It will be FREE! Happy Money Hunting! :p

Beth, I did a quick search. Here is Your State's website:

https://www.treasurer.state.nc.us/DstHome/AdminServices/UnclaimedProperty/Search.htm

I tried to find one for NM and Cali but all the ones I find want you to pay:(

Look on your actual State's page and then search on unclaimed

So I checked this not too long ago, or so I thought, but lo and behold unless there is another person with my name living in AZ (I used to live there) (all the other info was undisclosed) I might be getting some money! Now time to send the form in and see what happens!

I type "State of [whatever] Unclaimed Funds" into the search, and any state shows up.

HTH!

When I got home my husband was as shocked as I was. YES, YOU NEED TO GET ON YOUR STATE'S SITE. Some of the other sites charge you. The only money I will lose is 5% for administrative fees. I still can't figure out why they never contacted me. It is escrow money from 4 years ago when we sold a house. I can't understand why this money wasn't figured into our closing money. A friend of mine told me they probably did an audit and found it.
