I want to make the banana choc. trifle from the newest SB.... if I make it around noon, will it still be good if refrigerated to serve around 4? we have to go "family hoping". I was going to wait to put the top layer of banana on until it is about to be served. I just worry about the other bananas... I am hoping the lemon juice will make it stay.
Thanks!!

yes it will keep, in fact I personally like this one better when it has been sitting.

the lemon juice should work. I have found that using the lemon juice keeps any fruit from browning...even after you forgot there was a container with leftover whatever in it.

great.. thanks! I am off to make it!

Trifles are generally better when they sit for a couple of hours before serving than if they're served right away. The time allows the cake/cookie/brownie to soften and absorb the flavors from the pudding/custard/fruit.

Lemon-lime soda (reg, not diet Sprite, 7-Up, etc) or pineapple juice will work well, too.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does lemon juice prevent bananas from browning in a trifle?

Yes, lemon juice can help prevent bananas from browning in a trifle. The citric acid in lemon juice slows down the oxidation process that causes browning, keeping the bananas looking fresh for a longer period.

How much lemon juice should I use to keep bananas fresh in a trifle?

A tablespoon of lemon juice per banana is generally sufficient to help keep them fresh. You can adjust the amount based on your taste preference and the number of bananas you are using.

Can I use bottled lemon juice instead of fresh lemon juice for my trifle?

Yes, bottled lemon juice can be used as a substitute for fresh lemon juice. However, fresh lemon juice may provide a brighter flavor and more effective preservation due to its higher acidity.

How long can I keep bananas in a trifle before they start to brown?

Even with lemon juice, bananas will typically start to brown after a few hours. It's best to assemble the trifle close to serving time to ensure the bananas remain fresh and appealing.

Are there other methods to keep bananas fresh in a trifle besides lemon juice?

Yes, other methods include using lime juice, vinegar, or even coating the bananas in a sugar syrup. However, lemon juice is one of the most effective and commonly used methods for preventing browning.
