ChefBeckyD said:I did look at some threads - but this is a host who has never been happy with any knives - hated our other knives - and is trying to decide between the Forged knives or buying cutco - so I really need to know if someone has used both and could compare them side-by-side for me!

The forging process makes these knives very good quality and durable. Right up there with "Wustoff" (not sure of spelling sory..) We had a butcher come do a training with us on our forged knives and he raved about them! He said they were far better than he would have expected for the price! Not to mention Far and above Cutco in quality.
Have you done her show yet? Either way I would spend a little time with her. Bring the knives and let her try them out.

Cutco knives are known for their unique double-D edge, which allows for easy sharpening and maintenance. They are made from high-quality stainless steel and are often marketed with a lifetime guarantee. Forged cutlery, on the other hand, is typically made from a single piece of steel that is heated and shaped, resulting in a more traditional knife design. Forged knives are often heavier and can provide better balance and durability.
Cutco is well-known for its exceptional customer service and lifetime warranty, which covers any damage or wear to the knives. Customers can send their knives back for free sharpening and repairs for life. Forged cutlery brands may vary in their warranty offerings, but many do not provide the same level of service as Cutco, often offering limited warranties that cover manufacturing defects only.
Yes, Cutco knives are generally easier to maintain due to their unique edge design, which requires less frequent sharpening. The double-D edge allows for a longer-lasting sharpness and can be easily sharpened at home or through Cutco's free service. Forged cutlery may require more regular sharpening and maintenance to keep the blades in optimal condition.
Cutco knives tend to be more expensive upfront, especially when purchasing a complete set. However, their lifetime warranty and free sharpening service can make them a better long-term investment. Forged cutlery can often be found at a lower initial cost, but the overall value may vary depending on the brand and the quality of the knives.
Performance can vary based on personal preference and the specific tasks you need the knives for. Cutco knives are designed for versatility and ease of use, making them suitable for a variety of kitchen tasks. Forged cutlery is often favored by professional chefs for its balance and precision, making it ideal for more demanding culinary tasks. Ultimately, the best choice depends on your cooking style and preferences.
