Has anyone cooked/heated a Spiral Ham in the DCB?

I have a 7 lb spiral ham that I would like to cook in the DCB but not sure if I should do it in the oven or microwave and for how long. Any info would be great!

Thanks so much!!

Erin

What size is it? Will it fit in the DCB with the lid on? Is that what you had in mind? I think I'd probably go about it the traditional way and cook it in the oven. :)

It's 7 lbs and it will fit with lid on. I just wasn't sure if I'm still doing the time on the package or longer. I'd love to do it in the microwave but not sure how long to do it for.

We always do ours in the DCB -- in the oven, though. Never tried it in the Microwave. It's amazing, though!

, as a pampered chef consultant, I can assure you that the DCB (Deep Covered Baker) is a fantastic tool for cooking a spiral ham. The even heat distribution and moisture retention in the DCB will result in a perfectly cooked and juicy ham. To cook a 7 lb spiral ham in the DCB, I recommend preheating your oven to 375°F and placing the ham in the DCB with the cut side down. Cover the DCB with the lid and cook for 20-25 minutes per pound, or until the internal temperature reaches 140°F. If you prefer a more well-done ham, you can cook it for an additional 10-15 minutes. If you prefer to use the microwave, place the ham in the DCB with the cut side down, cover with the lid, and cook on high for 10 minutes. Then, reduce the power to 50% and cook for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 140°F.As always, make sure to use a meat thermometer to ensure the ham is cooked to your desired level of doneness. Happy cooking!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a DCB and how is it used for cooking a spiral ham?

The DCB, or Deep Covered Baker, is a versatile stoneware piece from Pampered Chef designed for oven and microwave cooking. When cooking a spiral ham, the DCB helps retain moisture and heat, allowing the ham to cook evenly while enhancing its flavor.

What size spiral ham fits in the DCB?

The DCB can typically accommodate a spiral ham weighing up to 8-10 pounds. It's important to ensure that the ham fits comfortably without being overly cramped, which can affect cooking times and results.

How long does it take to cook a spiral ham in the DCB?

Cooking time for a spiral ham in the DCB generally ranges from 1.5 to 2.5 hours, depending on the size of the ham and the oven temperature. A good rule of thumb is to cook it at 325°F for about 15-18 minutes per pound.

Should I cover the DCB while cooking the spiral ham?

Yes, it is recommended to cover the DCB with its lid while cooking the spiral ham. This helps to trap steam and moisture, ensuring the ham stays juicy and flavorful throughout the cooking process.

What are some tips for seasoning a spiral ham before cooking it in the DCB?

Before cooking, you can enhance the flavor of your spiral ham by applying a glaze made from brown sugar, honey, mustard, or your favorite spices. Make sure to apply the glaze evenly, and consider scoring the surface of the ham to allow the flavors to penetrate better during cooking.
