I realized yesterday was Pi Day (3/14). I think next year I'll do my own show and focus on pies. Anyone ever done this? Pillsbury sent out an email with their own ideas.

My sorority (Pi Phi) used to have a Pi Party for everyone who had a gpa of 3.14 or higher. Obviously, we served pie. I think it could be fun and you could show a lot of products making a pie but, are most people educated enough to know what Pi even is?? Maybe they are but I'm imagining a lot of my customers would have no idea and probably think I was a little strange!

I have never heard of this, but what a great idea!!! Can you forward the email from Pillsbury?

YOur sorority does not sound like the ones at my college. First there would not be Pie served... just lots of alcohol, and I do not thing they would close it to only 3.14 and above. haha.

LOL, that's what I wondered when I read this....

I learned that in school before college. It would all come back to them if you brought it up, don't you think?

My daughter (a senior) celebrated Pi Day this year. She is in a math club called Mu Alpha Theta. They got out of classes for the day to have a party. It included pizza "pi", having a math competition, and singing math songs! :sing:

We (my husband, son, and I) have had so much fun teasing her about "singing math songs". She did NOT appreciate it when I suggested that their math song was 99 Bottles of Beer on a Wall :D For those of you wondering....there is actually a song where you sing all the numbers in pi...oh my!

While it's a fun idea to incorporate pi day into a show theme....I doubt many people would get it without a bunch of explaining.

My students in advanced class had pi day Friday! How funny you're daughter did too. My fourth grade students had ding dongs that they measured and found pi for.

I hope people would know Pi - it was part of the curriculum when I taught 6th grade math! ok, maybe with a little reminder? I can't seem to copy/paste the email, but if you PM me, I can email it to you directly. ([email protected])

My middle school son Zach had Pi Day on Friday at school - whoever could memorize the most digits after 3.14 would get to throw a pie at the principal's face. They even had a picture in the paper the next day. Unfortunately, my son was sick and missed it but he was really looking forward to it.

I think I'm going to do this as a big neighborhood event, and invite friends that don't necessarily live here as well. I love the idea of throwing a pie at the principal. Next year they're opening a new elementary school for our area - I'll have to talk to the principal about doing this there. Although it only goes PK - 5. May be a little over their heads. But worth asking. :) I'll do it within our neighborhood regardless.
