for the cucumber it says to use the corer to get the seeds out and then slice it on the mandoline. I don't have a corer do you think its okay if we just use the apple wedger since it takes out the core of an apple too? The recipe does say to quarter the cucumber.

I would slice it in half lengthwise and then use the Core N More to get the seeds out before slicing on the mandoline.

You could also run it through the mandoline before de-seeding and then stack the slices and run the apple wedger over it!! Sounds like a great idea and shows a more expensive product!

The whole purpose is to not water down the salad with all the "junk" in the cucumber. It's more attractive and tastes much better.

I LOVE this salad! I buy english cucumbers and you don't have to seed them. I also make sure to rinse the onions under cold water after slicing them to mellow them out a bit. Also, as options to tell guest....feta cheese is excellent in it, and apples are a good substitute if strawberries aren't available.

Hi there! Using the apple wedger to remove the seeds from the cucumber should work just fine. However, keep in mind that the apple wedger may not remove all of the seeds, so you may need to use a knife to remove any remaining seeds. Also, be sure to quarter the cucumber before using the mandoline for even slices. Happy cooking!

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use an apple wedger instead of a corer for strawberry spinach salad?

While an apple wedger can cut strawberries into wedges, it is not designed to core them. If you want to remove the stems and hulls from strawberries, a dedicated corer or a knife would be more effective.

What is the difference between an apple wedger and a corer?

An apple wedger is designed to cut apples into wedges, while a corer is specifically made to remove the core from fruits like apples and strawberries. A corer typically has a hollow center that allows you to easily remove the stem and hull from strawberries.

Can I use an apple wedger on other fruits besides apples?

Yes, an apple wedger can be used on other fruits that are similar in size and texture, such as pears or some types of melons. However, it may not work well on softer fruits like strawberries, which can get squished.

What tools are best for preparing strawberries for a salad?

The best tools for preparing strawberries for a salad are a sharp knife or a dedicated strawberry corer. These tools will allow you to easily remove the hull and slice the strawberries without damaging their shape.

Are there any alternatives to using a corer for strawberries?

If you don't have a corer, you can use a paring knife to carefully cut around the hull of the strawberry and remove it. Another option is to use a small spoon to scoop out the stem and hull.
