Bounced Emails After Sending Newsletter: Troubleshooting

SUMMARY

The discussion addresses the issue of bounced emails after sending a newsletter via iContact. Users identified that including the phrase "Please reply with remove in the subject line" in the email footer caused the bounces, as iContact prefers the use of its own unsubscribe system. After removing this line, the newsletter was successfully resent without issues. Joy, another user, confirmed she would update her tutorial to reflect this problem.

I "sent" out my newsletter tonight through icontact and got them all bounced back. I used Tasty Tidbits and apparently since it says at the bottom "Please reply with remove in the subject line..." they all bounced back. I'm going to email Joy to see if she had any issues with this also but figured I would post it here also.

Joy just emailed me back and said that she's changing her tutorial to include this issue.
There is nothing wrong with it, icontact just doesn't like the word remove because they want you to use their unsubscribe system. I resent out my newsletter with no problem.

me, too I was just going to tell you to remove that line :)
Hey I "think" I saw you on the National conference DVD!
I just met you once, but I am 99.9% certain it was you!

I know I was film at HO with the bag they gave us last year. They showed it during closing session. Was that it?

I'm glad you got things figured out.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does it mean when an email bounces after sending a newsletter?

A bounced email means that the email you sent could not be delivered to the recipient's inbox. This can happen for various reasons, such as an invalid email address, the recipient's inbox being full, or the email server being temporarily unavailable.

How can I identify the reason for bounced emails?

Most email marketing platforms provide bounce reports that categorize bounces into two types: hard bounces and soft bounces. Hard bounces indicate a permanent issue, such as an invalid email address, while soft bounces suggest temporary problems, like a full inbox or server issues. Reviewing these reports can help you identify the specific reasons for the bounces.

What steps can I take to reduce the number of bounced emails?

To reduce bounced emails, ensure that your email list is up to date by regularly cleaning it to remove invalid addresses. Encourage subscribers to confirm their email addresses during sign-up and consider using double opt-in methods. Additionally, monitor engagement and remove inactive subscribers to maintain a healthy email list.

What should I do if I receive a hard bounce notification?

If you receive a hard bounce notification, it’s best to remove the invalid email address from your list immediately. Continuing to send emails to invalid addresses can harm your sender reputation and affect future deliverability.

Can bounced emails affect my email marketing reputation?

Yes, high bounce rates can negatively impact your email marketing reputation. Email service providers monitor bounce rates, and consistently high rates may lead to your emails being marked as spam or blocked altogether. Maintaining a clean and engaged email list is crucial for preserving your reputation.
