Maybe you can just emphasize the commitment is only 4 shows. Make it so they feel obligated for 4, then just try hard to make them great so they stay. I mean who would leave after making 500 or so in their first 4 shows?

I've had a mixed experience, and pick your booth carefully, consider location, price, and ask how the event is advertised, (newspaper? CL? How far will the signs go?) I'm at the point where I won't spend more than $20 for a booth at most events.
