My niece is going off to college. I sent my sister a file w/ ideas for products for dorm rooms. She's thinking of getting some of the things that are featured on the outlet (bar board and knife). So, I'm trying to decide what to get her. Microcooker or Rice Cooker? Can she use the rice cooker for cooking meat in it? I'm thinking she'd use the rice cooker for ramen noodles, heating up canned soup, or cooking a chicken breast or something, and plus she could make the lava cake. Right? I thought maybe I'd also get her the can opener or a measuring cup or something.

We gave Micro-Cookers to high school graduates this year. A small piece of stoneware would be a good idea, too. She can use it in the microwave. Be sure to arm her with lots of good recipes for all of the products.

Remind her, too, she can get more stuff - for free, just by showing others in her dorm how great the products are!:p

I give my grads a knife with honing case, keeps it covered in a desk drawer, and a bar board. Twix it clips too.

I did the Collapsible Bowls and a Quikstir (2 qt size).

Definitely a bar board & quikut (like the green one on the outlet). I would do the micro-cooker, just b/c it's less complicated.

The clips are essential!!! I would go with the micro-cooker. Stoneware gets broken and destroyed too easy with crappy roommates and the micro-cooker is indestructable. She could do a lot with it....my only question is does it fit in a dorm-size microwave? Never tried. Bar board is great also!

Hi there! As a fellow pampered chef consultant, I can definitely help you decide between the Microcooker and Rice Cooker for your niece's college room. Both are great options, but it ultimately depends on what type of meals she will be making. The Microcooker is perfect for quick and easy meals like ramen noodles and heating up canned soup. It's also great for cooking chicken breast or other small portions of meat. However, it may not be the best option for making lava cake.On the other hand, the Rice Cooker is perfect for making rice, but it can also be used for cooking meat and even making lava cake. It's a versatile and convenient appliance that your niece can use for a variety of meals.I would also recommend getting her the can opener and a measuring cup. These are essential tools for any kitchen and will definitely come in handy for your niece.Overall, both the Microcooker and Rice Cooker are great options, but it really depends on what type of meals your niece will be making. If she plans on making a lot of rice dishes, then the Rice Cooker would be the way to go. But if she wants a quick and easy option for small meals, then the Microcooker would be a great choice. I hope this helps you make your decision. Happy cooking!
