Grand Junction, CO, Colorado

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — An attorney for the lone suspect in Paige Birgfeld’s disappearance says Lester Ralph Jones’ pickup truck was seized by authorities earlier this month.

Lester Ralph Jones, the only "Person of Interest"
in the disappearance of Paige Birgefeld

Jones’ Dodge Ram 4x4 was curiously taken for several hours on Oct. 2 by Mesa County Sheriff’s investigators armed with a search warrant, and returned within roughly a 24-hour period, according to local attorney Colleen Scissors.

The seizure happened exactly one year to the day the sheriff’s office publicly named the 57-year-old Pear Park mechanic as the only suspect in Birgfeld’s disappearance.

Scissors said an explanation for the one-day seizure wasn’t provided.

Authorities neither confirmed or denied the action.

“All our search warrants in connection to the Birgfeld case are sealed and we have no further comment on them,” the sheriff’s office said in an e-mailed statement.

Nobody has been charged in the case.

Jones’ pickup, which was originally seized as evidence and impounded in July 2007, was returned to Jones and his wife, Elaine, on July 17 of this year.

The sheriff’s office at the time declined to talk about the truck’s release.

During a series of searches at Jones’ Pear Park home, neighbors described investigators taking sections of a pickup truck’s bed liner, among other items.

Birgfeld, 34, a mother of three children who operated her own escort business, was last heard from driving back to the Grand Junction area the night of June 28, 2007, after meeting her first husband, Howard Beigler of Aurora.

Foul play is suspected in Birgfeld’s disappearance.

I saw that come through. It would be great if something actually came out of it.

I'm trying to ... my laptop is having a memory hissy fit this morning, all while I'm trying to get to work, too.

Want me to post it? I'm registered over there now. (Grande says, "Hi," everyone.)

I just saw this article this a.m.!I figured KG would be on top of things as always!

Got it done, Chefann, thanks!

I have a question and I'm almost afraid to ask but please know that is an innocent question and not to make any type of judgement on Paige's character...
This article said she was operating her own escort service. I thought she was just working as an escort. So was she running a service or is this a mistake?

The reason I ask is because if she was running the service it could be someone else's "client" that could have something to do with her disappearance.

KG...thanks for posting this!

I hope this means that they are still getting tips, and that this was them checking out one of the tips! Geesh...I pray that they are working to make a solid case against him (or whoever did this or helped him) and that they find her before they arrest anyone. Her family needs some serious closure.

I'm hoping this means that they're moving ever closer to getting some answers for her family.Lisa, I wouldn't read too much into the wording. After all, while there are some fantastic journalists out there, there are also a lot of writers who don't check their facts too carefully.

Thank you for posting this KG. I think it's a good sign and means more is going on than we know.

I am glad to hear they're still working on things...

Yes, Paige was running her own service. No one in her family or on here knew this. Few of her friends, if any knew either. No one knows for sure what happened to Paige and we have been waiting for 1 year and almost 4 months for anything to break in this case. I will refer you to KG's blog which is referenced on the "Update, October 21, 2008" thread that KG faithfully has updated since Paige's disppearance on June 28, 2007.

This is a hopeful sign that they may have something that would help them as they are trying to build a more solid case. They want to make sure that they have a solid case before they make an arrest. The police highly suspect him but they want to make sure they nail the person and leave no room for doubt.

Lisa, we've all been down that road already (as you might have guessed because of the age of the story) and if you aren't intimidated by the sheer size of the Missing thread (it's pushpinned up on top) that was worth several days of discussion. Hannibal Lester, as he's become known around here, was, in fact, a client or a client wannabe. As for running a "service" well, if you consider a one-woman operation a service, then yes she was. We all know that it was just one of the many things that she was doing to keep her family together. You can see the CBS News 48 Hours Mystery on the CBS News website. It ran last June, and was all about Paige. It was one of the more objective reports that was done on network television. You can also find all the news reports about Paige on the Help Find The Missing website where it's just news reports without all the discussion and side trips. You'll also find links to CBS News there, too.

Thanks again for all the info. I have gone over and continue to check the update daily but I will say I have not read through the entire thread yet. I have also read some of the stories that you all have posted. I will check these out too.
I will just say again that I asked the question because I knew that you all know Paige and her story the best. I in no way judge her or think that is an excuse for someone to take her away from her children. In a way I commend her efforts as a mother. Great mothers do WHATEVER it takes to provide for their children and through what I have read and see on TV and by your dedication to her I know that what she was first, and formost what she was... A GREAT MOTHER.
