I am making the brownie at a show on friday so I always make the recipe at home to be sure I know how it turnes out.
Well I left this in the oven for 45 min. and it was very mushy :( , what did I do wrong? Has anyone ever had this problem?
Thank you for your help

The top will be syrupy. Did you let the chocolate sauce and water boil in the microwave? This makes a HUGE difference. I have made this several times and gotten rave reviews. The top does look like pudding when it's done.HTH!

: Hi there, sorry to hear about your brownie mishap! It's always frustrating when a recipe doesn't turn out as expected. I've definitely had my fair share of baking fails. From my experience, it could be a few things that caused your brownies to turn out mushy. Did you follow the recipe exactly or make any substitutions? Also, did you use the correct size pan and oven temperature? Sometimes even a small change can make a big difference in the end result. Another possibility could be that your oven runs hotter or cooler than the temperature you set it at. I would suggest trying the recipe again and making sure to follow it precisely. If it still doesn't turn out, maybe try a different recipe or ask someone who has successfully made brownies for their tips. Good luck!

Frequently Asked Questions

What could have caused my brownies to turn out mushy?

There are several reasons why brownies can turn out mushy. One common cause is underbaking; if you remove them from the oven too soon, they may not set properly. Always check for doneness by inserting a toothpick in the center; it should come out with a few moist crumbs, not wet batter.

Could I have used too much liquid in the recipe?

Yes, using too much liquid can definitely lead to mushy brownies. Make sure to measure your ingredients accurately, especially liquids like eggs and any added milk or water. If you’re adapting a recipe, be cautious about altering the liquid content.

Did I use the right type of flour?

Using the wrong type of flour can affect the texture of your brownies. All-purpose flour is typically recommended for brownies. If you used cake flour, which has a lower protein content, it could result in a softer, mushier texture.

Could the oven temperature have been too low?

Yes, if your oven temperature is lower than what the recipe calls for, it can cause the brownies to bake improperly. Always use an oven thermometer to ensure your oven is at the correct temperature, as many ovens can be off by quite a bit.

What about the type of pan I used?

The type of pan can also affect the outcome of your brownies. Dark, non-stick pans can cause brownies to cook faster, while glass pans may require a longer baking time. If you used a pan that doesn’t conduct heat well, it could lead to underbaked, mushy brownies.
