Really, you just couldn't make this stuff up.Eco-boat powered by human fat attempts round the world speed record
Link: Daily Mail Dec 19, 2007The fastest eco boat on the planet will attempt to break the round the world speed record using fuel made from human fat.Pete Bethune, the New Zealand skipper of Earthrace, said the attempt to circumnavigate the globe would begin from Valencia in Spain on March 1 next year.Bethune and his wife mortgaged their house and sold everything they own to help make the project happen, while continuing to seek support from sponsors.

Eco BoatRecord breaking attempt: Earthrace will attempt to circumnavigate the globe running 100 per cent biodiesel, and with a net zero carbon-footprintEarthrace is a 78 foot alternative fuel powered wave-piercing trimaran, it can carry 3,000 gallons of fuel, and weighs 23 tonnes when fully fuelledDemonstrating further commitment to the cause, Bethune underwent liposuction and donated enough to produce 100ml of biofuel, while two other, larger volunteers also had the procedure, making a total of 10 litres of human fat. This in turn produced seven litres of biofuel, which could help the boat travel about 15km.

Earthrace is fuelled on 100 per cent biodiesel and has a net zero carbon footprint. Follow the link to read the rest of this madness.

Not saying that biodiesel or the search for alternative fuel is bad, but can you hear the commercials from crazy people pushing liposuction. I'm already sick of the ones for Botox... I can't even imagine what liposuction commericals would look like!
"Don't do it for yourself, do it for the ENVIRONMENT".
"Liposuction... the environmentally responsible cosmetic surgery!"

eeeeuuuuwwwww!andWhere do I sign up to donate some fuel?

That is just too bizarre!

One of the things that's fun about some biodiesel is that the exhaust smells like french fries. That's the biodiesel that's made from recycled cooking oil, usually from fast food restaurants. But what would the exhaust from body fat smell like? :yuck:

All I can think of is Soylent Green.

I don't care what it smells like - I'm more than happy to donate. Sign me up! That baby'll be cruisin' by the time they're done with me!

When my husband I saw this on the news last night we said the same thing...I'm willing to donate! :)

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the concept behind a Liposuction Powered Boat?

The Liposuction Powered Boat is an innovative concept that utilizes the fat removed during liposuction procedures as a biofuel to power a boat. This unique approach aims to combine medical waste with renewable energy, showcasing a creative solution to both speed and sustainability on water.

How does the boat achieve high speeds?

The boat is designed with advanced engineering and aerodynamics to maximize speed. The propulsion system, powered by the biofuel derived from liposuction, is optimized for performance, allowing the boat to reach high speeds while minimizing drag and maximizing efficiency.

What world speed record is the boat attempting to break?

The Liposuction Powered Boat is attempting to break the existing world speed record for boats in its class. This record is determined by the fastest speed achieved over a specific distance, typically measured in knots or miles per hour, and is recognized by official governing bodies.

What are the environmental implications of using liposuction fat as fuel?

Using liposuction fat as fuel presents a unique opportunity to repurpose medical waste, potentially reducing environmental impact. By converting human fat into biofuel, the project aims to promote sustainability and encourage discussions around waste management and alternative energy sources.

Who is behind the Liposuction Powered Boat project?

The project is typically spearheaded by a team of engineers, medical professionals, and speed enthusiasts who collaborate to bring this innovative idea to life. Their combined expertise in various fields helps ensure the boat is both safe and capable of achieving record-breaking speeds.
