My DD's 2nd Birthday Cake! Bigger Pics & URLI just got my camera fixed and finally downloaded the pics from my daughter's 2nd birthday and just HAD to show you guys the cake I made for her! We had a Spongebob party and I made this cake ALL BY MYSELF! Everyone thought that I'd bought it. I was tickled to say that I'd made it all by myself from scratch!

OK, My pics are too big to upload. So, here's their thumbnail pictures. I hope you can see them good enough!

Here's the URL to her birthday pics slide show. Maybe this will be better!

That looks amazing! Great job!

Very cute and VERY impressive. My mom used to make me really cute cakes every year for my birthday that she decorated herself. I still have fond memories of those because I know she put her heart into making them special for me. Continue that tradition with your kids and I know they will think of them fondly! (My favorite cake my mom made me was Strawberry Shortcake!) :)

I made a Thomas The Tank Engine cake for my son's 2nd birthday, and I was still decorating it as everyone was enjoying the party!
I say Kudos to you for such a great job with SpongeBob! (I'm buying my cakes from now on:D )

It took me about 9 hours from start(baking cake) to finish(attaching spots)! My daughter LOVES Bob Bob Pants, as she calls him. Next year I'm going to do Bob & Larry from the Veggie Tales, I think!

That's awesome! You did an AMAZING job on the cake!

Wow, very impressive. My mother makes the most wonderful cakes, cars, castles, animals, trains, you name it. I really miss those days when she would spend hours on making the "perfect" cake but at 40 ya just can't expect that I guess.

Frequently Asked Questions

What ingredients did I use for my daughter's birthday cake?

For my daughter's birthday cake, I used a combination of all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, salt, eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. I also made a homemade frosting using butter, powdered sugar, cocoa powder, and milk to give it a rich chocolate flavor.

How did I ensure the cake was moist and fluffy?

To ensure the cake was moist and fluffy, I made sure to measure my ingredients accurately and not overmix the batter. I also added a bit of sour cream to the batter, which helped to keep it moist. Baking the cake at the right temperature and for the correct amount of time was crucial as well.

What tools did I use to bake and decorate the cake?

I used several essential tools, including mixing bowls, a whisk, measuring cups and spoons, a spatula, and a cake pan. For decorating, I used a piping bag and various piping tips to create fun designs on the cake. A cake leveler helped me to ensure the layers were even.

Did I face any challenges while making the cake?

Yes, I faced a few challenges while making the cake. One of the layers sank a bit in the middle, but I was able to level it out and hide the imperfection with frosting. Timing was also a challenge, as I had to coordinate baking the cake with other party preparations, but I managed to stay organized and on schedule.

How did I personalize the cake for my daughter's birthday?

I personalized the cake by incorporating my daughter's favorite flavors and colors. I chose chocolate cake since it's her favorite, and decorated it with pink frosting and sprinkles to match her party theme. I also added a special cake topper that featured her favorite character, making it extra special for her celebration.
