Be careful with the magnetic strips, sometimes the knives fall off of it. My dad had one and the knives would occassionally fall off and the tip would break on them. Sometimes all you had to to do was bump one (when you were reaching for the one next to it) and it would fall off. The magnetic strip would also scratch the knife where it was attached too if you slid the knife across it when you wre hanging it up.
I used to have an under the counter mount knife block that I absolutely loved! It mounted under my upper cabinet and was on a swivel base that you could turn so the knives were out of the way. I think I either got it from Chef's or Cook's warehouse - something like that. It cost @ $50.

I bought a wood block that has a wood perimeter, but the inside is made up of straws, so that you can fit any size knives into it (there aren't certain slots for certain knives)... I have my santoku, chef's, utility plus a bunch of steak knives...It is a full size block. Send me a PM if you want more information on the block.

I put smaller knives in my round-about that's right next to my stove. My other knives go into a drawer that is lined with felt that keeps them from moving around. In my kitchen at work all our knives are kept on a magnetic strips. I don't have any problems with them falling off. They do however mark up the walls behind the strip!!
