I had a guest approach me at a show last night and said they heard that The Pampered Chef supports and donates to gay rights issues. I was rather taken by surprise by that and wasn't quite sure what to say. Can anyone here offer any info about that subject?

Um, not true. We have two charitable giving campaigns--Round Up from the Heart and Help Whip Cancer. That's it.Did they have anymore for you to go on?

Just thinking out loud- I'm wondering if they are trying to associate comments possibly made by Warren Buffet (if any)?????

I suppose I would say "I don't know, does it matter? Where did you hear that, I'd like to read more."

Personally I wouldn't say the 'does it matter' part because it may sound like you don't value that person's opinion. So I might say.....I have not heard that. I know we support two really great causes but I'll be happy to look into it for you/or if you could tell me where you heard about it can I check it out. I'll get back to you in a few days.

I've had questions tossed at me that leave me speechless (thats RARE!) so I'd rather just tell them I'll look into it.

I subscribe to the American Family Association newsletter and I get email alerts every time a company comes out supporting gay rights. The latest one was McDonald's. As Debbie said, there is only two PC supports...

I would ask "Does it matter?" because I would want to know why it matters? They may be just making conversation or they may be saying "I don't support companies that support gay rights.". I'd like to know what prompted them to ask.

i agree that asking if it matters can come off as either dismissive or defensive. i would want to know where the person heard that, but i really do not care to learn their stance on gay rights.

i would respond by mentioning our programs and then asking "out of curiosity, did you hear that from someone?"

Thanks for all the feedback. I did try to ask where they heard it, but no specific answer. After seeing the comment about Warren Buffet, I seem to remember something a couple of years ago about some causes his company supports. I did tell her that if it was true, it would not be coming directly from Pampered Chef and that I would post here and see what I could find out. Again, thanks to you all.

Remember, any organization can have a PC fundraiser.

Yeah, and maybe there is a consultant somewhere who is gay and is contributing on his own. That doesn't make it a PC cause ...

I have had two women refused to attend parties because PC supports and is owned by gay women.

Some people just are the way they are (the two that refused), and older ladies are more mind set.

Bless and release...

Say what??

I know, I just sat there on the phone when my hostess called and told me. I'm sure I had the deer stuck in the headlight look.

I know that there are genuine concerns with some who have heard that Warren Buffet does donate to gay causes. If you look on snoopes.com it appears it is a mixed answer without a direct response. So; yes, no, mmmm maybe? Possibly. I totally accept the fact that they don't want their money supporting a cause they firmly believe against. If it became well know that (through "trickle down" via Warren Buffet) that my time and sales ultimately ended up funding the pockets of something I fervently disliked or didn't believe in, I would be inclined to leave PC myself. So I can understand where they are coming from; I just wish they would be informed before making the commitment to that "cause" :)

Who is gay? All the people I know who are "running" PC are married, most with kids! And, what the @#%$ does is matter?

I guess if someone is a single, successful woman, they must be gay! That is nuts!

It sounds like they were reaching for ANY reason not to attend/purchase/host, etc.

Seriously!! I agree. That's nuts.

Well for some of us it goes against the Word of God and therefore goes against what we believe is right. So if it were true, and I know it's not, they would receive complaints just like they did when we found out they supported planned parenthood.
I personally am against gay marriage and gay relationships. I am also against drunkeness, pornography, and other sins. I am trying to point out that sin is sin no matter what it is. It's all the same in the eyes of God. I would never work for a company that supported things that went against my beleifs and personal convictions.

Debbie :D

While I respect everyone's right to have beliefs and opinions.....where does one draw the line on where their money goes and how? I have heard of the email lists of 'gay supporting companies' and the boycotts but...where do we stop? There are gay consultants with PC and gay hosts of shows and gay beneficiaries through PC. Should that make one leave PC? I would hope not.

This is a 2 year old thread - really shouldn't be brought up again. Let's not start one of "those" arguments again on here!

My bad. I was actually google searching some things and this thread came up and I didn't look at the date it was posted.

Yeah. Only women .. yeah ... no men would be (a) PC consultants, (b) single, (c) successful, (d) straight, er gay, er who the "F" cares?

And consultants do fundraisers for all types of groups ... gay, stupid, minority, majority and even for women! Sheesh!

Once told Roomie that there are a lot of male consultants and not all of them are "Beverly Lesley's."

(That came from a Partylite gathering we both attended and when a guy was given an item, he said, "Thank you, my wife will love it." We both looked at each other and mouthed the words "Your Precious Wife Crystal?")

Anyway, I agree with Becky ... it's a 2 year old thread and should die a painless death.

But for the record .... I am single and am not gay. Not that there's anything wrong with that ....
