Not sure how many you are making it for but here's mine I make it in my large stockpot or when I half it in my crockpotbrown
1 1/2 pounds italian sausage
1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef
add
1 1/2 tsp fennel seed
2 onions chopped
4-6 cloves crushed garlic (or more according to taste)1 tbsp sugaradd 2 cans tomato paste & 2 cans of water
I use 2 large cans of diced tomatoes
2 large cans of crushed tomatoes
2 lg cans of sauce and let it simmer all day. Toward the end of cooking I add Italian seasoning to taste,I also add mushrooms depending on who I'm feeding.

That sounds like heaven... so I could put this in the Crockpot? Would I have to cook the meat first?

yes cook the meat first and drain it.
I have also been known to stir in a little red wine or a tbsp of grape jelly (omit the sugar when using jelly)
