Well, I don't have a DCB, but I've been wanting to try out some of the microwave recipes that y'all say are great in the DCB, especially the white chili chicken. So, I decided to improvise. I used my deep dish pie plate with my medium stone on top as a lid, and I made a half batch of the chili (although a full batch might actually have fit). And it worked really well, despite the lid not being very "tight" because of the fluting on the pie pan.

So, this might not be one to mention to your customers, but if you don't have a DCB it will let you try out some recipes at home. If only I could fit a whole chicken in a pie dish... ;):)

Oh, and the chili was SO good, I will definately be cooking it again before long.

So let yourself have your own Show this month and get you one for only $26!

Do some Christmas shopping for your friends and family and put it in as a show and then you can get it as the host! :)

Believe me, I'm planning on it! Hopefully I'll get enought orders at my craft fair table to submit as a show, otherwise, I'll have to give a lot of PC as presents this year!

I was hoping to get it in September, but I messed up my KE order... Well, at least I didn't realise I could only place one order...

Ha - great minds think alike! (And type at the same time!).

you know, i got my DCB with my KE in Oct, but until then i was using the stoneware bowl. i know it isn't for sale anymore, but for those who already have the bowl, they might appreciate knowing that if they don't already.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a DCB and why might I want to improvise with a pie plate?

A DCB, or Deep Covered Baker, is a versatile stoneware piece from Pampered Chef designed for cooking a variety of dishes in the microwave or oven. You might want to improvise with a pie plate if you don't have a DCB on hand or if you're looking for a different cooking method that allows for more browning or a crispier texture.

Can I use a pie plate for all the recipes that call for a DCB?

While many recipes can be adapted for a pie plate, some adjustments may be necessary. The cooking time and temperature may differ, and you might need to cover the dish with foil to retain moisture, depending on the recipe.

What types of dishes can I make in a pie plate instead of a DCB?

You can make a variety of dishes in a pie plate, including casseroles, baked pasta, quiches, and even desserts like cobblers or crumbles. Just ensure that the recipe is suitable for the shallow depth of a pie plate.

How do I adjust cooking times when using a pie plate instead of a DCB?

When using a pie plate, you may need to reduce the cooking time slightly, as the shallower design allows for quicker heat distribution. Start checking for doneness a few minutes earlier than the recipe suggests for the DCB.

Are there any special tips for using a pie plate effectively?

Yes! To prevent sticking, consider greasing the pie plate or using parchment paper. Also, keep an eye on the cooking process, as dishes in a pie plate may brown faster than those in a DCB. Lastly, be mindful of portion sizes, as a pie plate may not hold as much as a DCB.
