Hello there. I'm new to PC, and new to this community. I've been lurking and learning a bunch. Now I need your help. I have a customer that has the old covered baker - the one that was bought as 2 separate pieces - and is questioning whether or not she can put it in the microwave. She says she seems to remember being told that she couldn't.

Yes she can if it fits.

Any of our stoneware can go in the microwave, like Beth said, it depends on if it will fit or not! I sometimes have guests at my shows shocked when they hear they can put stoneware in the microwave. If I'm holding the large bar pan I'll tell them that it goes in the microwave too if they have one big enough to fit it! Usually gets a laugh.

Stoneware can also be washed in the dishwasher if you do not put any soap with it. I do this to all of my stoneware during the flu season just to be safe.

Thank you all so much. She'll be happy to know that.

And I love the dishwasher tip...Do you have to run a rince cycle before hand to get out the residual soap?

Not recommended by HO although many people do it. I would NOT pass that to your customers because it would technically void their warranty.

The high pressure spray can cause hairline cracks in the stoneware.

Cleaning it in the sink with HOT water is the best way. It doesn't usually take very long to clean. In fact I think it takes longer for my water to heat up than it does to wash all my stoneware.

The top two tips I've heard as a stoneware owner and user are that you can wash it with a baking soda paste and that you can use a nylon brush. The little brown scraper just never did it for me - especially since I had to stick my hand in that hot water!People don't seem to care that the soap doesn't actually get dirtgerms off, it's the hot water, but when they hear they can wash it with baking soda if they feel the deep burning need to, they seem placated. Usually.

I love using the kitchen brush on my stoneware, gets some of the stuff that doesn't have an edge to scrap off.

Definately get the easy clean kitchen brush for your stoneware! It is so well worth it and works great!!!!!!

If someone is totally NEEDING to "sanitize" tell them to clean them the RIGHT way, and then put them into an oven set on about 250 for about 10 minutes or so. That will kill any germies!

I wouldn't tell them to do the dishwasher thing...only cuz HO doesn't recommend that.

I had heard this, but then I also heard not to heat them with nothing on them (like keeping them in the oven when cooking something else), because it can cause??? I don't know, something bad, and was also a warranty voider (like the dishwasher).

Is there anything official on this, one way or the other? Because if it's cool, I'd love to recommend it to the "eek, no soap?!" folks, but as it stands I am more than a little hesitant.

They can always bake something like crescent roll dough on it and then throw it away ... re-seasons the stone in the process. The motion of the dishwasher causes hairline cracks that you won't see ... until you bake something on it and it explodes in your oven!I use my kitchen brush on EVERYTHING and though the stone never sees soap the brush does ... and often bleach. Recently I cleaned it and my sink by using it to scrup in a little comet!
