Director Exploring Milwaukee & Chicago with Kids/Tweens

In summary, Milwaukee and Chicago offer many family-friendly attractions and activities. The Milwaukee County Zoo, Discovery World, and the Harley-Davidson Museum are popular choices in Milwaukee, while Gino's East, Portillo's, and the Rainforest Cafe are kid-friendly restaurants in Chicago. Families can also enjoy outdoor activities such as visiting Millennium Park and Navy Pier in Chicago. The Chicago Children's Museum caters to children ages 2-12, but has something for all ages. For accommodations, there are several hotels in both cities that cater to families, such as the Ambassador Chicago and Hyatt Regency Milwaukee.

Anyone in the area? What's there to do with kids/tweens vacationing there?
We're thinking of flying in a few days early for NC and flying into Milwaukee...sightseeing etc...then taking the train into Chicago for NC. Thoughts?

They have a big Summerfest festival along the lake. Not sure when the dates are.

I'm not there but I'm from there. There are usually festivals going on most of the summer at the Summerfest grounds - lakefront. They have great museums and lots of other kid friendly events. Baseball is big in Milwaukee and a trip to Miller Park is always a hit. They have a great restaurant there where if they are out there you can watch the Brewers practice.

If you can make it up to Green Bay you could visit the Packer's stadium. There was an amazing park up that way - rides and all and very inexpensive prices. I forget the name. Also up north of Milwaukee is Oshkosh and the air musium - the kids can actually fly a real plane. And there's Wisconsin Dells - water parks and much more...
