? About the Bamboo Carving Board

S
sfdavis918
I have a host who ordered this earlier this month. She used it to carve a chicken on and washed it with hot soapy water. The finish on it is ruined. Also the color of it is not the same as mine, it is much lighter. Here are a couple of pictures of what I am talking about. Is any of this normal?

I don't see the pictures?

Whoops, I tried to upload them and they were too big so I thought I erased that line! I am going to try to do it from photobucket. Back in a flash.

Sorry about the size. I have now since learned how to resize.

I wouldn't worry about the lighter color....but it looks bad. Did she scrub it with bleach? I have a hard time believing that hot soapy water did that. Call HO for her.

I have noticed after running my new bamboo items thru the dishwasher that they fade but they still have a nice smooth finish. I agree send it back! It looks rough!

I had the same problem with mine last Jan. I called HO and they replaced it. I now don't put the turkey or any thing hot out of the oven right on it which has seemed to help.

The same thing happened to mine the first time I used it. HO replaced it. Haven't had a problem with my new one but haven't used it much.

Related to ? About the Bamboo Carving Board

1. What is the best way to clean and maintain a bamboo carving board?

The best way to clean a bamboo carving board is to wash it with warm soapy water and then dry it immediately. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials, as they can damage the bamboo finish. To maintain the board's appearance, periodically apply a food-safe mineral oil to prevent the bamboo from drying out.

2. Why did the finish on my bamboo carving board become ruined after washing it with hot soapy water?

It is possible that the hot water and soap caused the bamboo fibers to expand and contract, which can result in the finish becoming damaged. It is important to use warm, not hot, water when cleaning a bamboo carving board to avoid this issue.

3. Is it normal for the color of a bamboo carving board to change over time?

Yes, it is normal for the color of a bamboo carving board to change over time. Exposure to light and air can cause the bamboo to darken or lighten. This does not affect the quality or functionality of the board.

4. Why does my bamboo carving board look lighter in color compared to yours?

The color of bamboo can vary depending on the type of bamboo used and the finishing process. It is possible that the two boards were made from different types of bamboo or were finished differently, resulting in a difference in color.

5. Can the color of a bamboo carving board be restored?

If you would like to restore the color of your bamboo carving board, you can try sanding it lightly with fine sandpaper and then applying a food-safe mineral oil. This may help to bring back some of the original color. However, keep in mind that the color of bamboo can change over time and some variation is normal.
