    This sounds silly but if its only going to one side of the pan I'm guessing her stove or cooktop isn't level. Mine does the same thing.

    A jalepeno is milder than a serrano. I would suggest a pablano, a bit spicier than a bell pepper, but still really mild. They kind of look like small bell peppers.

    You can also download a free trial of Office 2007. I think it's a 90 day trial, when it expires you can no longer modify files but you can still open and view them.
