OK - Let me start off by saying I KNOW that these are not meant to be compared directly.

I just got a Maytag Gemini Double Oven. We are having our cluster meeting at my house tonight & are wanting to fix the same thing on both a sheet pan & a stone so that we can compare how long each takes, crispness, etc. so that we can be informed on what to tell our customers when the sheet pans come off of STOP SELL.

What would be good to do this with? Crescent Rolls, cookies, pizza? Give me some ideas, ladies!

Thanks!!

I would probably do something you know turns out well on stoneware, like a pizza or something-that way one result is definite! I'm sure both will be great though!! My absolute favorite thing about the stoneware is that it's virtually impossible to burn things! I always forget to set the timer, so when I was using sheet pans we often had rock hard cookies and such, lol

I would do cookies. I heard alot of people say they like the way cookies turn out best on the stoneware. You could also throw in a third batch of cookies on a regular sheet pan to compare all three!

See if someone who is attending the meeting does! Or ask a neighbor - then give her a taste test and sell her a stone!!;)

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of baked goods are best for comparing sheet pans and stoneware?

To effectively compare sheet pans and stoneware, consider baking items like cookies, roasted vegetables, and casseroles. Cookies will show how evenly each surface browns, while roasted vegetables can highlight moisture retention and crispiness. Casseroles will demonstrate how well each material retains heat and cooks through.

How does the baking time differ between sheet pans and stoneware?

Baking times may vary between sheet pans and stoneware due to their different heat retention properties. Stoneware typically takes longer to heat up but retains heat well, leading to more even cooking. In contrast, sheet pans heat up quickly, which may result in faster baking times for certain recipes. Always check for doneness a few minutes earlier when using sheet pans.

Can I use the same temperature settings for both sheet pans and stoneware?

Yes, you can generally use the same temperature settings for both sheet pans and stoneware. However, keep in mind that stoneware may require a slightly longer baking time due to its heat retention properties. It's advisable to monitor your baked goods closely, especially the first time you use a new material.

What are the advantages of using stoneware over sheet pans?

Stoneware offers several advantages, including superior heat retention and even cooking, which can enhance the texture and flavor of baked goods. It also tends to absorb moisture, making it ideal for dishes that benefit from a crispy bottom. Additionally, stoneware is often more durable and can be used for both baking and serving.

Are there any specific recipes that work better in one over the other?

Yes, certain recipes may perform better in one type of bakeware. For example, delicate cookies may spread more evenly on a sheet pan, while hearty casseroles or bread may benefit from the moisture retention of stoneware. It's best to experiment with your favorite recipes to see which bakeware yields the best results for each dish.
