What is the attire usually anyway - I just got a note from my director that I have a room now
MissChef
05-30-2007, 12:42 PM
Casual Business attire! Some people go really casual but I know the company frowns on that. And at least one of the general sessions is a dress up affair!:)
BethCooks4U
05-30-2007, 01:21 PM
If you are walking you will want a really nice outfit (some people even go formal but that isn't necessary - just YOUR preference) and many of the Exec dinners are more dressy but otherwise business casual. The majority of people wear capris and a nice top.
None of the sessions are more than business casual for the "audience" unless they changed that for this year.
I plan to wear something nicer on Day 1 (but not dressy) since we have the director training/lunch, something casual nice and pink on day two - HWC/RUFTH recognition, dressier for Exec dinner, casual nice last day.

I am going to wait until the last minute to get anything new. I am hoping to be a size of two smaller!
If you want to lose a size or two, walk at least a half hour every day, no exceptions. AND eat oatmeal, the slow cooking kind, with no sugar, every day until conference. I add golden raisins, bananas, or frozen blueberries (picked fresh and frozen by me last summer). I make sure I get fruit in every bite or YUCK. Cinnamon added is good too. I just forget sometimes. I guess it's basically a no cooking demo show. Most people I've talked to just are soooo busy, that I thought I could offer them a "Shop & Go" show by making a recipe at home and brining it with me. Then at the show, I'll have an on-time drawing so we can start ON TIME, I'll have 1-2 games (depending on the group, I think) and just do a quick Queen of Shoppers or Catalog Walk. The guests can eat, shop and GO.... should be about an hour (or less) Sales might not be as high, but it's better than NO SHOW at all.....

So you still need a hostess--or else do your own. Hmmmmmmm I might offer that to some of the on the fence hostesses. I also need to look into pampering a business. The girls from the huge bridal shower I had a couple of months ago all work in the same dental office. One of them was going to host, but then backed out the week before. I thought I might take the show to them!

Lacy! Where have you been?! I just kept on counting down, wondering where you were!
40 days! Wow this is the amount of time that Noah spent on the Ark! ;)
I did a little shopping yesterday, but I'm not going to take off the tags, cause I'm jumping on my South Beach diet phase 1 and I'm going to do it, I'm heading to the grocery store in just a minute and loading up on fresh veggies and lowfat cheese and whatever else I can eat on phase 1, it's the only way I'll make it! My cabinets have to be stocked with the stuff I need or I will backslide!
I'm hoping to pull off some weight and go about 2-3 sizes smaller! I need to start walking today too or riding my bike, I like that idea even better, than the kids will join in and have a blast!
I stood in the dressing rooms yesterday and just looked at myself and almost cried! And those darn mirrors don't lie!!! Dang, they slapped me right in the face and punched me right between the eyes! :o ! I can't blame it on the 'camera adding five-ten pountds, it wasn't a camera!

Now, if worse comes to worse we can just make an announcement of where we'll be and invite everyone and see what happens from there! Most of the time the ladies that I'm with stay in one of the main hotels. I'll find out and let you know!
39 days! I can't wait!
My daugher is counting down her own countdown, today is her field trip, tomorrow is her birthday, and I always take in a really huge Choc.Chip cookie made on the lg rnd stone, decorated with chocolate frosting and happy birthday on it! I've done it for my son for years and last year I was going to do it for my daughter and she came down with strep throat the afternoon before her birthday!
I also make for her whatever she'd like for dinner, this year it's breakfast for dinner! Pancakes, eggs, country fried potatoes, sausage, bacon and english muffins! And of course it will be served on the Celebrate plate because that's our tradition! Dang I'm going to be pooped by the end of tomorrow night!
And then she's excited about Saturday, cause that's her party! So tomorrow I'll be working ALL day in the kitchen. Cause I need to make her cupcakes, and she wants me to make her and ice cream cake! oh boy! this is my first!
Wish me luck....!:)

I LOVE LOVE LOVE coffee! So I'm game for that! Maybe the very first day! Monday! ohhh I likey this idea! If everyone who wants to meet, can make it, let's do it! And an extra bonus would be that it would be before conference officially started and then we'd all know each other and if we see each other in the halls, workshops, luncheons, general session.... you get where I'm going with this....right? I know what you mean. I can eat anything at any time, so there have been mornings that I had chicken or steak for breakfast. Its actually best to eat the larger meals in the morning.
There are other things you can have, packed with protein that would be good for the morning. Yogurt, plain, low fat, 12 grams protein per 8 ounce2278-oz container. My nutritionist also highly recommends the EAS Edge Carb Control bars. Some of them aren't that bad and they keep me full--and I can chow down!

Wow! Thanks Anne! I do love protein bars! And I've been wondering which ones would be best! So thank you! I do like yogurt too, it just doesn't feel me up for long! But I guess I can buy some cottage cheese too. Thanks for the tips!
Happy to help! I had my weigh in last night. I started seeing the nutritionist on April 30th. To date I am down 16 pounds. Dave has lost 20.
Just watch your sugar and carbs--switch to whole wheat where possible and eat lighter in the evening than you do in the AM.

Wahoooo 33! We are almost to only a month left! My hubby tried to come home the other night and tell me about his boss trying to set up some training for him in the next month or 2 and quickly told him "not July 15-18! He said "well, I can't help when he sets it up!" Well, I gave it right back to him! Cause yes he can help it! He is 2nd in command at his work and has a kosher little office set up right next to the boss and they are always talking! I told him "yes you will make sure that he doesn't schedule anything for that time because you said I could go, and I have scheduled everything and I am not canceling now! You told me you marked it off on your calendar and you need to take that calendar into your boss and show him the "no, I can't dates"! He got the message and backed down! Most of the time I will not go against him much because he is a great guy and a great hubby, but this time he got told in no uncertain terms that if he (and his boss) made these plans, he needed then to figure out propper care for the kids and he would be the one to miss his class not me, or he can take the kids with him and make sure they are well taken care of!
He quit arguing! And I am planning a visit to his office today or tomorrow to take him to lunch and to "remind" his boss that those days DO NOT WORK!:)

I love my kids and my hubby more than life it's self! But I do look forward to time for me and my business without all the responsibilities, plus it's good for my kids to know they can rely on Daddy just as much!
I let my excitement out her and I'm so thankful for this site! Cause I know you all know how I feel!:D ;)

I can't hardly wait.....my dh is actually not going to mind. Our girls are staying at my parents' while I'm gone, so he's going to have lots of peace & quiet; which makes him happy. I joked that he's more excited for me to leave now!

06-15-2007, 05:10 PM
Lacy ~ You can count on the fact that I already checked your numbers! If you count today the # is right on, if you count from tomorrow and don't actually count today as one of the days then we are off and we leave in 30 days! So you pick whichever way you want me to count down! Because I am consistently getting on here everyday, even if I only have a minute, just so I can keep counting down!:D :o  ;)
As for leaving your kids with your parents, that is exactly what I wanted to do and I think I'm going to do that next year! My parents just moved to Tennessee and just made an offer on a house. If they stay there then I will do that next year, because for me to get a flight round trip from tennessee to chicago is only about $100. I'm going to see if they will help me next year by buying one of the kid's tickets so that it doesn't end up costing me to much money! This whole idea of taking the kids and I to see my parents will be one of the driving forces behind me doing really good this next year with PC! I have a fair that I signed up to do and I signedup for 6 shifts (we got a great deal, didn't cost much at all!) and I'm hoping to get a new customer base this fall. Of course I'll still work with my current customer base but I'm excited for the new leads to come too!
Anyway, I know that my husband will give me no grief at all about going next year if I can take the kids to my parents' house! It's hard on him when I leave because of the kids, he works early and gets home late! So it's just more difficult for him to be available for them!
lacychef
06-16-2007, 09:20 AM
I hope that works out for you next year! I'm lucky that my parents live 10 miles away, so they spend lots of time with my girls. They probably won't be ready to come home when I get home from Chicago;)

26 days!
Now I have a new dilema! I went to the dentist yesterday, I had a really bad tooth! I had to have a root canal! and well they had to rebuild it and they used a blue filler! WTH?! So now I have a blue tooth and I'm not talking a dang ear peice for a cell phone!!!!! (that's the joke around here, oh joy! ) It's my 4th tooth back and it's not real obvious but it's enough to be embarrassing to me! My hubby told me to call and tell them to get it fixed because of the fact that I am in sales and smiling is important to me!!! I just might! Ughhh  :( they had better fix it before conference!!!
I did it before conference on purpose, so that I didn't have any problems! Now, I'm totally upset! My smile means a lot to me, I wore 4 years of braces and I am in a job that requires me to smile as I'm sure you all understand!
Okay... I'll keep you posted, but I am still excited about conference!

How many of you?
Maybe a party bus. You know, the small buses that people rent out for bachelorette parties and things.

I *might* have to see if we can postpone our carpet replacement, because I just don't have time to pack everything away, and I've got 2 shows over the weekend when I return from Chicago, and we're supposed to get the carpet on the next Monday! ACK!!!!!!
Ok..... it will be fine..... deep breaths............

I can't wait to meet some more fellow cheffers. I feel way behind because I haven't been on as much lately.
The best part of conference is that it means no more summer school!:) Don't get me wrong I love teaching, but the caseload they gave me is enough for 2 teachers. I just keep thinking about conference.

It totally is a vacation, I know that when I get back I can sleep in (it's only 7AM, but I take every bit I can get), go clean out my classroom and have 1 month of pure son time before I go do it all over again.
I will see you in Chicago!

That might be a good idea because it sure sounds like you have alot on your plate and I'm one of those types that has no problem taking something that is not mandatory off my schedule if I'm too swamped! Because other wise I take my stress out on my family and that is not cool!
I need to finish some shopping too and then I'll be ready to pack too! The company's checklist is a big help, now I just need to add my extra's!:)

Thanks Lacy, I feel loved. Let me tell you after the day I had today I want to be leaving for conference Sunday.
I have this kid who has been calling me a stupid teacher all week (behavioral issues), and today I finially broke and told another teacher to get him out of my room. Well she let him draw to distract him, they asked him what he drew and he said it was him killing the stupid teacher. I was floored! (sorry about the temporary hijack, now back to our conference countdown)
So watch out fellow cheffers and watch out Chicago. :)

Anne I agree, he is not in my class for the rest of summer school, however because he is in special ed they are not doing much. The scarey thing is this kid is only going into 3rd grade, what is he going to be like as he gets older.
pcchris
06-27-2007, 11:10 PM
You know what Amanda? I don't care if this kid is special needs or not - that is scary! As a parent of a son with special needs (who, BTW, Graduated High School last year...ON TIME! Yay), I know how frustrating they can be. Fortunately, he never got into the "killing" thing. He just was in his own little world. If a teacher could get into hs world, he was great. Otherwise, he was a nightmare to have in class. I'm so sorry you had to encounter that. Hopefully he'll get some good therapy.

You don't HAVE to buy a dress to walk. . .get a really nice pantsuit. Just check out the people walking this year. . .you should see some nice outfits. Or keep an eye on the Home Office presenters and what they are wearing. I'm not a big fan of dresses either so I know where you're coming from.

I understand. Not "old lady" ones -- very polished professional suits.
When I was a little girl I planned on getting married in jeans (I did not think about it much but when I did have a wedding "vision" I was in jeans and we were outside). I love jeans but as I've gotten older, I've found that my khakis are more comfortable and make me look a LOT more polished without any effort.

He was making us the best strawberry drinks, well the trick is they tasted so dang good, he was using fresh strawberries and all, and blending it with ice and a wine blender, and he then was slipping in shots of rum, anyway they were so good that we were drinking them like lemonade on a hot day!... LOL I keep forgetting that nobody here at CS knows that story.... it's a long story......
So, I've been posting on message boards for many years. Well, it took awhile for My John to understand that these people really are real, and they really are my friends. So then he started to care about how I refer to him.... he figured out that DH is dear/darn husband (depending on the mood, right? ;)) so he wanted something, too. Well, if I went with DJ (for dear/darn John), he thought people would assume I left him and was now with some guy named DJ.... LOL
After awhile, it became "My John" for a couple reasons... one of my fave reasons is my kids. When they would introduce us to someone (a teacher, a friend, etc...), they say "This is My Mom and this is My John" kinda like "my dad", but since he's not their dad, he's their John. Cute, huh? ;)
Another reason he's My John is that about half my friends also have a John..... so even when we're just sitting around talking, we all have to say things like "My John...." lol
So that's my weird little story :)

Kathy, my director always sends us that are going to conference a pack of goodies. This year she outdid herself....she sent a 3 ring binder with notebook paper to take notes & a page for each class to list what we learned etc, a checklist, a pencil bag with pens-pencils-bunch of stuff, and a cute personalized letter saying how excited she is for us to go. She had it stuck in a cute bag. Also in the bag is ziploc bags with tylenol, lotion, kleenex, all kinds of stuff. She's awesome:)

Okay, makes more sense now!!! The other way it can be taken is that he's "your john" (pimp!! you know???!!! :D :o !) LOL!!! I knew it wasn't that but if was still sorta freaking me out! So now that I get it, it's cute to me! Especially when I think of it in the idea of your kids introducing him that way and your friends having other "Johns!" I remember when I dated a guy named John for 2 1/2 years when I was a teenager and my Dad's best friend's name was John, so I use to call my boyfriend "my John" too!

I just went back and re-read what I wrote and I feel stupid! I didn't mean to make that like a lecture! Or some holier than Thou statement! I'm so not the one to judge! I should not have said "but", what I was trying to say is that how funny that you feel that way but that you probably have to keep that to your self because of the kids! And how hard that must be!!! especiall because of what arses ex's can be!!! Shoot, my own hubby drives me crazy sometimes and when we have our disagreements, how I want to go off on him and tell the kids what an arse he's being but I don't! I *think* I am done shopping now. I bought a pair of slacks (capris, but they're slacks, very business....), a nice shirt and skirt (not my first choice, but I was running out of time for shopping, and I found one that I could actually stand to wear! lol).... I also got a good score with a rolling piece of luggage. It's an Eddie Bauer bag and I got it for $20.01! It was supposed to be a 5-piece set for $200, but it only had the biggest piece for $20.01 ;) And that's the only one I needed! lol And I found a nice bag that looks like a huge purse, but is made for carrying a laptop! So I'll be able to do just ONE carryon bag, since I can put my wallet into it, along with a book and a magazine, too! YIPPEE!!!!
Now to start packing.....
Well, it looks like at least he (the ex) got back to you! At least you don't have to worry about not having care for your kids!
I will pray for your peace! :)
I have a few more things to get and then I'm done with my shopping too! I bought some comfy shoes yesterday and now I need one more pair and I need a black sweater, for conference rooms and then I'll buy the snacks next week! I'll get travel size supplies next week too!

I'm going with just Keds for my shoes.... I can't wear dressy shoes for more than about 10 minutes without my feet killing me. I suffer through my cooking shows so I look semi-professional, but all that walking would be the end of my poor ol' feet! So I have 3 colors of slipon keds, and I will bring some other shoes, just in case I decide I want to try to suffer through ;)
Yes, the ex finally called me, claiming he had not seen that I had called all the times before.... whatever  After what happened with our DD yesterday, I will be making sure he understands that things like that can happen, and that when I call, there's a reason and he needs to ANSWER HIS PHONE or call me back immediately! Thankfully yesterday was just my over-dramatic little girl being, well, over dramatic.... but it's a good time to make my point to him that things CAN and DO happen, every day. Hate to think about it, but as parents we need to live in the real world and be aware of things like this.....
ANYWAY...... I'll do laundry today and figure out which things I will NOT be wearing this next week and get those ready to pack. I need to make my list of other supplies to buy, too.....

I think I'm set for clothes, but just have to do a few tiny alterations on a couple things. Hopefully today or Sunday I'll shop for some undergarments. :)
I'll check the Metra schedule sometime this week....or convince DH to take a Sunday afternoon drive and drop me off.

Hilton rooms have a mini coffee pot (4 cup). They also have mini fridges, but I think if you open them, they charge you. It's to cut down on theft from the mini bar. (Of course, I may be misremembering from last year)

Coffee pots & hair dryers. No microwave and no mini-fridge (a friend in another room had to request a fridge last year for breast milk storage  )
I would guess that they have ice machines somewhere. . . I've stayed there for a few years now and have just never gone looking.

Here's the information for the site of lunch on Monday at McCormick.
The Plate Room Food Court, located on level 2.5 of the South building, offers an interesting array of items available to take on the run or to be enjoyed in the adjacent seating area. Six food concepts are available at this location, including Little Italy, Antipasto Bar, Pacific Rim, the American Grill, The Carvery and Fiesto Bravo. So whether you are craving a gourmet sandwich or salad, Mandarin Orange Chicken with Fried Rice or an authentic Pastrami Reuben, you can find it all at the Plate Room Food Court.
We had talked about meeting at 11:30 but I think I'll try to be there at 11:00. . . there are a few "talkers" in this group. This can be an early (pre-workshop) lunch or breakfast. . .depending on which part of the country you are from.
Here's a link (I hope) for an interactive floor plan of McCormick.

I am getting excited too!
Last year was my first and I was in Wave 1 - I know it won't be easy, but I want to be totally surprised when we get there - so I am wondering if I should stay off CS so that I don't accidentally read any spoiler threads...
What are all you planning on doing? Am I the only one that is worried about this?
Will I need to check in to see what the plans are for the meet up?
I am so torn - it is hard to stay off for so long!

Gosh, I wish my executive hadn't lost a director, because I wish it was her banquet I was going to, because she's always given a really good banquet! I think my gal cut 2 inches off my hair today.... she was excited! ROFL! She rarely trims up the ends, just cuts the front so it's not in my eyes.... She asked if she should wash it, or just cut and I had to laugh! It would have taken an hour to wash it and then get it brushed out, cut and dried..... she just had me stand up and cut off the ends so it wasn't fried-looking anymore.....
Time to start packing, I guess. Tomorrow I'm working out of town, so I'll do laundry when I get home and start packing my stuff away...... I'll have to get everything packed up by Friday afternoon so I can take it to my friends' house and make sure I'm under the weight limit ;) I will be taking 1 extra bag, that I will hopefully not need, except to fill with my dirty clothes....

Yes, United has a weight limit. 50 lbs per checked bag. Ask me how I know. ;)
Some airports are more strict than others, so be prepared.
When PC sent us to San Fran in April, they didn't weight our bag when we left via O'Hare, but on the way back through SFO they did, and we had to take some stuff out. Oops.
My advice would be to pack two smaller bags rather than one large one. That was our problem--we had one HUGE suitcase between us and it just ended up being too darn heavy.

I Just started laundry, need to make sure my son has his clothes cleaned before I leave. Too much to do, & too little time!

I've been trying to find a way to weigh my suitcase. It covers the display on the scale! Maybe I'll take it down to the Co-op they're not very busy since there isn't anything around here to harvest! :(

Step on the scale holding the suitcase. Then step on the scale without the suitcase. Subtract b from a and you have the weight of your suitcase.

I'm sensing "nurse" in your post.... since that's how we had to weigh my little girl when she was a baby (she would cry and wiggle all over the place if we tried to weigh her on the baby scale:rolleyes: )
OK.... I've gotten NOTHING done...... tomorrow I have office work to do, errands to run, laundry to wash, bags to pack and final shopping to do...... and I have BUNCO tomorrow night, too! lol At least that's at a neighbor's house, so it won't be any traveling, just a walk around the corner.... lol

That is the truth! I have to finish laundry, help with Bible school this morning, go visit my mom cause it's her b-day today, run to Walmart, pick up my rockstar hostess' stuff, then come home & pack! I better get off here, lol!

I think I'll be sending out the list shortly. Things are getting crazy at work. I will PM everyone, and if you gave me your email (and I remembered to save it), you will also get an email copy. The format is: ScreenName, Real Name, Phone Number, Hotel (if provided and I remembered it).

I'm home already, and I'm getting excited for all of you! You're going to LOVE it!
No more hints from me, other than: if you don't have August and September booked solid before you leave, call people on your way there! You absolutely want to have your 2 shows this month to get the free cookware piece (and bonus for conference attendees!).

I am not spending a cent before conference if I can at all help it. Saving money for logo wear and goodies at conference. My old job used to be more dressy than my current jeans and T job so I hve some clothes to wear.
Once I get home from conference it will be kick butt time to lose the rest of this excess weight.

Well, when you posted earlier, I was on my way to the gate!!!!
BTW.... the list shows me staying at the Palmer House, but we changed to the Hilton ;)
And my friend & I went to the John Han**** building to the Signature Lounge.... what a gorgeous view!!!
The flight was.... well, a flight! I'm really not a fan flying, and I slept most of the way, thankfully right through the bit of turbulence we had! But I did get sick on the bumpy descent :( At least I had friends around me to help me. One was holding my hair back, one was rubbing my shoulders from the seat behind me, the others were throwing tissues my way, getting more bags ready, just in case I needed more.... UGH! It was really terrible! But I survived!
And I was put in the FRONT of the shuttle cab.... LOL All 7 of us piled into a shuttle cab, with our tons of bags and all........ it was "comfy" LOL I had a suitcase and 2 bags up front with me, with nowhere to put my feet, so I kicked off my shoes and sat cross-legged on the seat! lol
Sooooooo...... more of you should be arriving tomorrow. I'll be touring Chicago and doing some shopping. I'm finding tons of stores that I just HAVE to get into!!!!!! lol
Hope to see ya'll soon :)
