The whole exploding water thing is more likely to happen in new containers. With no scratches or imperfections to help water form, it can spit out how water.

I wouldn't use regular windex to clean the inside of a microwave. There are microwave cleaners available, but a bit of steam will work fine.
 
I guess that is why I have never had a problem- my pyrex measuring cup that I heat water in is beat to crap, LOL!!!

just a note on the micro boiled water. You should make certain the top/opening is larger. The smaller it is the more pressure that will build.
