So, we got our second batch of horrid viruses from myspace....I am DONE there! Last night, dh had to quick-restore our computer cause it got to the point where Windows wouldn't even open.
Thanks goodness he's very computer-literate or I don't know what we'd have done......just a recommendation for everyone----if you don't already, I would suggest saving PP & your email contacts onto an external hard drive. That's my saving grace. After we got bad viruses 6 mos ago; we saved everything there & luckily it all worked & the only thing I lost were my current emails from the past couple weeks....
Be careful if you're on myspace! I tried even setting mine to private, but obviously it wasn't enough:grumpy:

I'm on myspace daily and never had any problems. My dh is a computer tech. he said that you don't get viruses from places that want you to come back, like myspace or porn sites. most of them come from pop ups and downloads.

Yes, but don't you notice sometimes your friends have bulletins or messages posted that they didn't post.....they got hacked & if you click on it, then it can be trouble for you. My dh was a computer tech also; he searched & found the name of the virus we had & searched it online, & it came up attached to a myspace address. I'm not going to risk losing my biz info again; I'd rather just email my friends than chat there now.

Maybe it helps that I don't use Internet Explorer, I'm very, very diligent with my virus and spyware software and I block popups and most ads... I've yet to be affected by anything like that.I'm sorry this happened to you!
 
Yuk.. I'm sorry you had to deal with that. I change my password frequently which should cut down on anyone attempting to hack. I know I love Firefox for its popup blocker, not to mention it loads faster than IE. Ooh... I also scrub my cache and history occasionally and run AdAware and Spybot to clean house too, along with the normal virus scanning. DH is an IT guy too and it seems that most of the machines that come in got their viruses from... 'naughty pictures' sites and gambling sites... or email they receive from same... I'm vigilant about myspace, thats for sure but I do like that I can blog, IM and keep in touch with folks. DH recently deleted his account there but that was more about 'friend politics' than anything.. *rolls eyes*...
 
There are a few great free virus scan software programs you can use. One is AVG. Make sure you have some virus scan on your PC and keep it updated. Block pop-ups and ads...run something like adware on occasion and don't go randomly clicking on things! Using firefox or another browser can help some too, I use both that and IE depending on what I'm doing.

You once in awhile lose a thing or two if a website isn't programmed to handle all browsers, but that is getting to be pretty rare.

I use Firefox for all my "personal" things and IE only at work for some things such as our E-bay account. Technically we are supposed to be using IE at work only (go figure)...mainly because we have a browse control set for most users. But I use Firefox when I think I need to. Especially when I am doing a lot of research at various sites. If I haven't been there, and it doesn't seem to be a "reputable, well-known" technical site, I use Firefox.

It is getting rare... lately the only site I've had trouble using Firefox with was the Merrill site when I placed my first order. :rolleyes: Other than that, most sites are catching up seeing that it's not going to go away.
 
I have an extension for Firefox called "IE Tab" and it's a little icon on the status bar - if I click it, the page is re-rendered in IE - so for those sites that get finicky (and I do find a few), I don't even have to open a separate browser for them.It's wonderful.

I had to switch to IE in order to order my pots and pans from Panorama......wouldn't work with Firefox.....I guess PC hasn't caught up yet either!
