My husband I went over to the local Farmer's Market to inquire about tomatoes for next month's Homemade Salsa-making Event at our house. The daughters and grandkids come over to help make at least 5 quarts, so we will need quite a lot of them. It's an annual event that everybody loves to participate in. In talking to the owner, she agreed to do a Catty Show so she could get the Food Chopper dirt cheap (no pun intended!) She loves the one she bought from me last year and likes to buy ones for the daughter-in-laws, since hers always mysteriously disappears! I thought this was really good, since all I thought I'd get from her was another order :)

Thanks, guys. She said that if they ruled out Florida as a source of the recent samonella outbreak, Florida was thinking of suing the FDA! Kind of radical, huh?

Frequently Asked Questions

How many tomatoes do I need for a family salsa-making event?

For a family salsa-making event, you typically need about 2 to 3 medium-sized tomatoes per person. If you're expecting 10 people, plan for around 20 to 30 tomatoes to ensure everyone has enough salsa to enjoy.

What type of tomatoes are best for making salsa?

Roma tomatoes are often recommended for salsa because they have fewer seeds and thicker flesh, which results in a chunkier texture. However, you can also mix in other varieties like vine-ripened or heirloom tomatoes for added flavor.

Can I use canned tomatoes instead of fresh ones for salsa?

Yes, you can use canned tomatoes if fresh ones are not available. Look for diced or crushed tomatoes without added preservatives. However, fresh tomatoes will provide a brighter flavor and better texture for your salsa.

How can I adjust the number of tomatoes if I want to make a larger batch of salsa?

If you want to make a larger batch, simply multiply the number of tomatoes by the number of servings you need. For example, if you want to serve 20 people and you estimate 2 tomatoes per person, you would need about 40 tomatoes.

What other ingredients should I consider for my salsa besides tomatoes?

In addition to tomatoes, consider adding ingredients like onions, cilantro, jalapeños, lime juice, garlic, and salt. These ingredients will enhance the flavor of your salsa and make it more enjoyable for everyone at the event.
