Have you used our Himilyan Sea Salt in it instead of regular salt? Its a little corser than regular table salt and was just wondering how it would incorporate into the chowder. I saw a thread on the $99 DCB special and thought that would be a good thing to include in the bundle.

I've never used anything but our salt. Just set the grinder to the finest grind position by tightening the knob all the way.

Me either.

I also partially peel the potatoes - leaving all the peel on is too much for us but some adds the texture.

I do the same thing. I think it's because I use regular sized potatoes (not ones that are a lb. each!) and so there's more peel - but it just looks very unappetizing to me to have all that peel floating at the top of the soup - so I peel them part way.

Hi there! I'm so glad to hear that you're considering using our Himalayan Sea Salt in your chowder recipe. It's a great way to add a unique flavor and texture to your dish. The coarse texture of the salt will definitely add a nice crunch to your chowder. I haven't personally tried it in a chowder recipe, but I have used it in other dishes and it always adds a delicious touch. As for the $99 DCB special, that's a fantastic idea! The Deep Covered Baker is a must-have in any kitchen and would make a great addition to your bundle. Let me know how your chowder turns out with the Himalayan Sea Salt! Happy cooking!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Himalayan Sea Salt and how does it differ from regular salt?

Himalayan Sea Salt is a type of rock salt that is harvested from the Khewra Salt Mine in Pakistan. It is often pink due to the presence of trace minerals like iron oxide. Unlike regular table salt, which is heavily processed and often contains additives, Himalayan Sea Salt is minimally processed and retains more of its natural minerals, which can enhance flavor and provide health benefits.

How does Himalayan Sea Salt enhance the flavor of Potato Chowder?

Himalayan Sea Salt enhances the flavor of Potato Chowder by providing a more complex and rich taste compared to regular salt. The trace minerals in Himalayan Sea Salt can add depth to the chowder, complementing the creaminess of the potatoes and other ingredients, making the overall dish more flavorful.

Can using Himalayan Sea Salt in Potato Chowder affect its texture?

While Himalayan Sea Salt primarily affects the flavor, it can also influence the texture of Potato Chowder. The salt helps to draw out moisture from the potatoes and other ingredients, which can lead to a creamier consistency. However, it’s important to use the right amount to avoid making the chowder too salty or altering its intended texture.

Is there a recommended amount of Himalayan Sea Salt to use in Potato Chowder?

The recommended amount of Himalayan Sea Salt for Potato Chowder typically ranges from 1 to 2 teaspoons, depending on the quantity of chowder being prepared and personal taste preferences. It’s best to start with a smaller amount and adjust as needed, tasting along the way to achieve the desired flavor profile.

Are there any health benefits to using Himalayan Sea Salt in Potato Chowder?

Himalayan Sea Salt is often touted for its potential health benefits, including providing essential minerals like potassium, magnesium, and calcium. While these minerals can contribute to overall health, the amounts present in a serving of Potato Chowder are relatively small. However, using Himalayan Sea Salt can be a more natural alternative to processed salts, appealing to those looking for a healthier seasoning option.
