Thanks, everyone. I had some rare but life threatening complications and it was terrifying. The docs and nurses at the hospital are calling it a "traumatic delivery" but I would go through it again to have her. They didn't think I would survive it. Due to the complications I was given NO pain medicine. I went in for upper abdominal pain and came home a week later with a baby. Its a long story, but I would share if anyone wanted to know what happened. It could affect someone you know.

Anne - so glad you are both alive and healthy! I have a friend who had some odd life threatening blood conditions. Her baby had to be life-flighted out. If you type it up for someone I'd be interested in hearing and knowing the story. Obstetrics was my favorite medical area while working on my EMT license. But don't type it out just for me. :blushing:

Thanks everyone. As soon as she can reach the counter, she'll be working in the store! LOL

To be honest, a lot of the labor and delivery is a blur. Initially, I went to the hospital Sunday (the 27th) because I was having a pain under my ribs and vomiting. They ran a blood tests and did an ultrasound on me, and figured I had a gall bladder attack (even though my gall bladder showed no signs of stones), so they treated the pain and sent me home. I felt better Monday and then Tuesday night it was worse. I went back early (4am) Wednesday morning in the worst pain imaginable. They tried to treat my pain with demerol, but it did nothing. I had to wait 3 hours for it to leave my system before they could give me morphine, which thankfully worked. So, there I was for 3 hours on the verge of screaming. My husband, Dave, was beside himself, arguing withthe nurse to do something else. After a while, they had me undergo a number of tests (blood, ultrasound, MRI, non-stress, and some others I don't remember) again. A number of doctors consulted on my case. I am not sure who actually diagnosed my condition. They found that on was on the verge of stroking out because of my blood pressure, which has never been a problem, and put me on magnesium sulfate. They also learned that my liver enzymes were crazy high, and the liver itself was swollen, my kidneys were also swollen and not functioning like they should, and I had some problem with my gall bladder as well as my spleen. I had had the dream pregnancy and in week 38 all hell broke loose. Through all of this, the baby was fine. I was the one closer to being dead than alive. They didn't tell me how bad I was. I think they didn't want me to panic. I knew bits and pieces of info, but not the full story. They called in a number of different specialists to see my case. The diagnosis was that I was toxic; had preeclampsia and HELLP syndrome, which stands for H (hemolysis, which is the breaking down of red blood cells), EL (elevated liver enzymes) and LP (low platelet count). I had the low platelet count; which at the lowest, was 31. (The average count for a healthy adult is 150-400). They couldn't do an epidural because I may get a blood clot or a c-section if I needed it because my doctor said I would have bled out on the table. So, they decided that the treatment for my illness was delivery, but since I wasn't due for 2 more weeks, they had to induce labor with NO pain medication. I cannot say I would recommend that to anyone. The one doctor couldn't believe I was not only still alive, but communicating. They called my family to come in to see me just in case "things didn't go well". So, here I am, laying on a table, and my Dad is coming in, my Step-Dad, my best friend and they all look freaked out. I knew when my brother came in, and I saw the look on his face that something was really wrong. They had 2 or 3 IV's in each arm and they drew blood from me for transfusions, if I needed them. I was so dehydrated and tired from not being able to eat or sleep for 2 days, (because I was vomiting so often) that I would pass out between contractions. Then, the baby was in distress. The NICU team was in the delivery room with us, waiting. As soon as she came out, she wasn't breathing. She just looked like this little rag doll. I started to freak out. The whisked her away, bagged her and that was all I knew. I didn't get to hold her right away and Dave didn't get to cut the cord. it was like everyone was just holding their breath. I was induced at 11:30 Wednesday night and had her at 12:45 Thursday afternoon, with two hours of hard pushing. As they were working on me after the delivery, someone came in and told me that she was 5lbs, 9 oz and 19.5" long. With their help, she started to breathe on her own. She was in NICU for 6 days, mainly because of the complications from the magnesium they gave me, but she is doing great now. It was an unbelievable experience. I still wake up at night with nightmares about what happened. I was very fortunate and started to bounce back quickly after the delivery. I was like a celebrity in the hospital. All kinds of different nurses and doctors were coming in just to meet me and couldn't believe what had happened and that I had survived. I had one nurse tell me that everyone is talking about me and my case. So, I was discharged on Monday and Mary was discharged from NICU on Tuesday. I was told that I have to be careful for the next number of weeks because I still have a distended liver. They say I need to take it really easy because if I damage it while its in this condition, it could rupture and that wouldn't be good. The perinatologist assured me that if we wanted to have another child that we could, but I would be more closely monitored. Sorry this was so long.

Holy cow Anne!

I am so glad that God was watching over you and your daughter through all of this! PLEASE be sure to listen to the drs and TAKE IT EASY!! It's common sense, really...for any type of delivery, but not everyone listens. You REALLY need to listen and give your body plenty of time to heal from that ordeal! I am so glad that you made it through and are here to be with your DH and your daughter!

Thank you, Lord, for touching Anne and allowing her to come through such a traumatic delivery. I pray that you continue to heal her body and help her to feel 100% again soon! Thank you, also, for a beautiful and healthy baby girl for them!

Wow, that was much more than I expected! You definately had some guardian angels watching over you:) Yes, please REST as much as possible. I'm sure that with all that, you surely have lots of helpers for the baby. What a blessing she is indeed, and I'm so happy that you're okay after all that. {{Hugs}}
