I agree. I didn't care much for it either. It was rather loud and you had to use a lot of force to get it to cut through tougher vegetables. I am curious, too. MFC????

I use the small bar pan in the microwave and the toaster oven. For chicken nuggets, I put the amount I want to make on the small bar pan, and cook it in the microwave for 1 minute. Then I put it in the toaster oven to get crispy. This cuts cooking time for the nuggets dramatically!!!!

There is a one piece insert that has the chilling solution in it. It is flat on one side and has the devilled eggs section on the other side. Not sure when it was discontinued, however, I broke my lid on Thanksgiving and was able to replace it under its 3 year warranty. Hope this helps...
