It is important to create an emergency preparedness plan for your home and family. This plan should include having an emergency kit with supplies such as flashlights, batteries, non-perishable food, and a first aid kit. It is also important to unplug electronic devices and avoid using water during the storm.

If you are caught outside during a thunder and lightning storm, seek shelter immediately. Avoid tall objects such as trees, and do not stand near metal objects. If you are unable to find shelter, crouch down on the balls of your feet and keep your head tucked in until the storm passes.
No, it is not safe to use your phone during a thunder and lightning storm. Cell phones and cordless phones can attract lightning strikes, so it is best to avoid using them until the storm has passed.
If your power goes out during a storm, stay calm and check to see if your neighbors also have lost power. If so, contact your power company to report the outage. If only your home is affected, check your circuit breaker and call an electrician if necessary.
