Receiving Spam Emails From Myself??

In summary, someone is using your email address to send spam to other people. You can either ignore the spam or delete it.

Someone that is computer savvy please help me!! I have received two emails in the past two days that have my personal email address as the sender. They were both for viagra and other drugs.

I haven't visited any odd sites lately or given my email address out online in a registration type thing.

What's up with this? I'm afraid that emails with my personal email address as the sender are going out to other people.

The one I just got had a "click to unsubscribe" button. I clicked it and it took me to a drug site in Canada! It said I was receiving it because I had signed up with MSN to receive their emails. I haven't.

What can I do? Should I be worried about this?

It's called "Spoofing" and there really isn't much you can do about it. The worst thing you can ever do is click on a link that says, "Remove From List" because what that does is prove you have an active email address and increases the amount of spam you will get.Anyone who clicks on the link doesn't get to you, they get to the spam site, which you did, which is what they want you to do.I get spam from me several times a week.

I knew I shouldn't click it for exactly the reason you stated. Normally I just delete things like that but, for some reason, it really bothers me that it's using my email address.

Spoofing is huge. I get several emails a day from "me." Don't open them, just delete them.

I've heard of spoofing but forgot what it was. I've had this same email account for almost 10 years and these are the first two I've received. Guess I've been lucky!

(raising right hand) I promise to automatically delete spoof emails. (lowering hand and getting back to work)

I always get emails about "how to enlarge my penis." That is definitely top priority for me!

Me too, I could have the largest penis in the western world!

The one that totally freaked me out was when I started recieveing e-mails from my deceased Mother! It wasn't too long after she had passed away, and I e-mailed them and asked them to PLEASE take me off, all I got was a snippy come-back! It's hard but just ignore it!

It's funny you asked about this, because I just got my first one from "me" the other day. It kind of through me off, but I didn't even open it.

Related to Receiving Spam Emails From Myself??

1. Why am I receiving spam emails from my own email address?

There are a few possible explanations for this. One possibility is that your email address has been spoofed, meaning the sender of the spam email has made it appear as if it is coming from your own email address. Another possibility is that your email account has been hacked and the spam emails are being sent from your own account. It is also possible that you have accidentally signed up for a mailing list or your email address was sold to a spammer.

2. How can I stop receiving spam emails from myself?

If your email address has been spoofed, unfortunately there is not much you can do to stop the emails from coming. However, if your email account has been hacked, you should change your password immediately and enable two-factor authentication to prevent further unauthorized access. You can also mark the spam emails as junk or report them as spam to your email provider. Additionally, make sure to never click on any links or provide personal information in these spam emails.

3. Will receiving spam emails from myself infect my computer with viruses?

It is unlikely that simply receiving spam emails from yourself will infect your computer with viruses. However, it is always important to be cautious and never click on any links or open any attachments from unknown sources, as they could potentially contain viruses or malware.

4. Can I block emails from my own email address?

Unfortunately, most email providers do not allow you to block emails from your own email address. This is because the email is technically being sent from another source, even if it appears to be coming from your own address. You can try creating a filter to automatically delete these emails or mark them as spam.

5. How can I prevent my email address from being spoofed?

There is no foolproof way to prevent your email address from being spoofed, as it is a common tactic used by spammers. However, you can minimize the chances by avoiding posting your email address publicly on websites or social media platforms. Additionally, make sure to regularly update your passwords and enable two-factor authentication for your email account for added security.
