Maximize Your Tax Savings: Claiming Recipe Ingredients as Write-Offs

In summary, the conversation discusses whether or not the ingredients purchased to practice a recipe can be written off on taxes. The consensus is that they can be, but only up to two times per year. Other suggestions for deductions include mileage to and from the store and writing off only half the cost of the ingredients. The group also jokes about the benefits of practicing a recipe multiple times.

Does anyone know if the ingredients you buy to practice a recipe is a write off on taxes??

Yes... most definetly

I have heard that you can only write off practice ingredients one time per recipe.

That could be... maybe you have to document if your family thinks you are practiced enough! :) I'm only teasing! That makes perfect sense really! I've just been on hold for like.. 36 minutes waiting for HO to pick up... sigh... I needed a laugh! my apologies in advance!

I never wait for HO to answer...I just do the call back thing! SO much easier!!

Yes, you can write off practice recipes.

they didn't offer the call back option this evening... sigh...

That's the reason my husband wanted me to become a consultant. We were told at that time that you could try each recipe 2 times.

Don't forget to write off the mileage to/from the store for those ingredients!

I forgot the mileage to the store and back.

thanks

My accountant said to deduct 1/2 the cost of the practice recipes because their was some benefit from preparing them.

If I made them and no one in the family ate them, that would be different.

Floccies: That is probably a safe thing to do...especially if you have a lot of them. We don't want to get audited. I don't usually write mine off, but save them just in case I need them at tax time.

2. What types of recipe ingredients can I claim as write-offs?
