Calculating Food Tax for Takeout in California

In summary, the food tax rate for takeout orders in California is 7.25%, and it applies to all food and beverage items sold for takeout. There are no exemptions or discounts for this tax, and it is calculated by multiplying the total cost of the food and beverages by the tax rate. When you enter the host in P3 there is a "look up tax code" button near the address section. It takes you to a web page where you can enter in the zip code and then it'll show you the tax info for that zip code. HTH :)

Oh, and the tax is according to the shipping address. So if the outside orders are just going to the host, that'll be what you select. But if it's going directly to the guest's address, you have to click the button that says to have it shipped to guests address. Then you look up the tax code info for that zip code and see what it is and then enter it in.

no food is not taxed in California

Hi there! As a pampered chef consultant, I can definitely help you figure out the food tax for outside orders. In California, there is a sales tax on prepared food items, which includes any food that has been cooked, heated, or mixed by the seller. This tax rate varies by county, and you can find the specific rate for your area on the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration's website. To calculate the tax for your outside orders, simply multiply the total cost of the food items by the sales tax rate for your county. I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions. Happy cooking!
