Several of the new recipes call for Cream....and while I love cream, I have a problem using it all the time, and especially using it at home, since my DH & DS have some lactose intolerance. Plus, I don't use canned cream soups, so I'm always trying to come up with a good alternative for those. Today, at my local health food store, I found something new! It's called MimicCream, and my friend who works there says it works great! (just not for whipped cream - yet)

I bought some, and I'll be using it soon! Here is the link to the website, for those who may be interested. OH! AND it's completely Vegan, so it's a great alternative for those people too. :D

MimicCreme Non-Dairy Creme Substitute

Thanks Becky. I took a look at the ingreadients list....nice to see it isn't a chemical list! I'd be curious to see how it handles as a substitute in baking. Have you had an experience with that yet....I'm wondering if the lower fat content will make a noticable difference.

Cool. Thanks for sharing, Becky.

POOP! Got all excited about that as my grandson has severe allergies to all dairy - and TREE NUTS. So this is a no-go because it contains cashews & almonds. Darn it anyhow.....but please let us know how it works as it may be a good show alternative for the vegans.

I'm also glad to hear that MimicCreme is vegan, making it a great alternative for those with dietary preferences as well. I'll have to check out the website and give it a try in my recipes. Frequently Asked Questions

What is a good dairy-free cream substitute for cooking?

Coconut cream is an excellent dairy-free substitute for heavy cream in cooking. It has a rich texture and can be used in both savory and sweet dishes. Just make sure to use the thick cream from the top of a can of full-fat coconut milk for the best results.

Can I use almond milk as a cream substitute?

Almond milk can be used as a lighter alternative to cream, but it may not provide the same richness. To thicken it, you can blend it with a bit of cornstarch or use it in combination with other ingredients like silken tofu for a creamier texture.

What is a suitable cream substitute for someone with a soy allergy?

A great option for those with a soy allergy is oat cream. It has a creamy consistency and works well in both sweet and savory recipes. You can find oat-based cream products in most grocery stores, or you can make your own by blending soaked oats with water and straining the mixture.

Is there a nut-free cream substitute available?

Yes, sunflower seed cream is a fantastic nut-free alternative. You can make it by blending soaked sunflower seeds with water until smooth. This substitute is versatile and can be used in various recipes that call for cream.

Can I use cashew cream for a vegan diet?

Absolutely! Cashew cream is a popular vegan substitute for heavy cream. Soak raw cashews in water, then blend them with a bit of water until smooth. This creates a rich and creamy texture that can enhance both savory and sweet dishes.
