Does anyone have a good recipe using venison for beef and noodles? My son became a big deer hunter this year (first year and shot an 8 point and a doe) so I find myself with a freezer full of venison and no recipes.... Thanks!

Anything you'd make with beef you can make with venison. Find some beef recipes you love and substitute deer.

I make deer stroganoff all the time. Saute cut up deer roast pieces with diced onion. Add S&P and 1 clove minced garlic. When meat is almost done add 1 pkg sliced mushrooms. Add 2 cans cream of mushroom soup, 1 can of milk, and 1T Worchestershire Sauce. Let combine and simmer. Right before serving add 1/2 cup sour cream. Serve over egg noodles.

Frequently Asked Questions

What ingredients do I need for a Venison Stroganoff using freshly hunted deer meat?

To make Venison Stroganoff, you will need the following ingredients: 1 pound of freshly hunted deer meat (cut into thin strips), 1 medium onion (chopped), 2 cloves of garlic (minced), 8 ounces of mushrooms (sliced), 2 tablespoons of flour, 1 cup of beef or venison broth, 1 cup of sour cream, 2 tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper to taste, and egg noodles or rice for serving.

How do I prepare the venison for the Stroganoff?

Start by trimming any excess fat from the deer meat and cutting it into thin strips. You can marinate the meat in a mixture of Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper for about 30 minutes to enhance the flavor and tenderness. After marinating, pat the meat dry with paper towels before cooking.

What cooking method should I use for the venison in the Stroganoff?

For the best results, use a skillet or a Dutch oven. Heat some oil or butter over medium-high heat, then add the venison strips in batches to avoid overcrowding. Sear the meat until browned on all sides, which should take about 3-5 minutes. Remove the meat from the skillet and set it aside while you prepare the sauce.

Can I use frozen deer meat for this recipe?

Yes, you can use frozen deer meat for Venison Stroganoff. Just make sure to thaw it completely in the refrigerator before cooking. Once thawed, follow the same preparation steps as you would with fresh meat. Keep in mind that frozen meat may release more moisture, so adjust cooking times accordingly.

What can I serve with Venison Stroganoff?

Venison Stroganoff pairs well with egg noodles, rice, or mashed potatoes. You can also serve it with a side of steamed vegetables or a fresh salad to balance the richness of the dish. For a complete meal, consider adding some crusty bread to soak up the delicious sauce.
