Don't buy it!

I picked up lamb breast at the supermarket last week... I love lamb and I thought 99 cents was a bargain! Then I get home, google it, and find out that I've wound up with a cut of meat that is normally reserved for dog food!

So I throw it in the slow cooker to try to cook it tender and render out the fat that is quite prevalent... Then, following the recipe I find on the internet, I debone it and then press it between two plates under a weight, then slice it and pan fry it.

Ummmm... let's just say this edition of "experimental cooking with Joy" would have gotten me kicked off of the next Food Network Star.

It was horrible... little pieces of rib bone still stuck throughout... fatty, gristly meat.... hardly even any lamb flavor! So, the moral of the story is that you really do get what you pay for, and when it comes to meat, there are few bargains to be had.

YUCK! Thanks for the warning.

I have never had lamb, but I may have been tempted at .99 per pound...thanks for the info!

love lamb chops sauteed in wine and fresh mushrooms or grilled just keep the nasty mint jelly away

Bumping because it is gross :D

A breast turning out be something other than you expect reminds me of high school.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is lamb breast and how is it different from other cuts of lamb?

Lamb breast is a flavorful cut that comes from the lower part of the lamb, near the ribcage. It is known for its rich taste and higher fat content compared to other cuts like lamb chops or leg. This makes it ideal for slow cooking methods, which help render the fat and enhance the meat's tenderness.

How should I prepare lamb breast for cooking?

To prepare lamb breast, start by trimming excess fat if necessary, but leave some for flavor. You can marinate it to enhance the taste, using ingredients like garlic, rosemary, and olive oil. Cooking methods such as braising, roasting, or grilling are recommended to achieve the best results.

What are some popular recipes for lamb breast?

Popular recipes for lamb breast include braised lamb breast with vegetables, grilled lamb breast with a herb marinade, and roasted lamb breast served with a mint sauce. Each recipe highlights the meat's rich flavor and can be paired with various sides for a complete meal.

How long does it take to cook lamb breast?

The cooking time for lamb breast varies depending on the method used. If braising, it typically takes about 2 to 3 hours at a low temperature to become tender. For roasting, it may take around 1.5 to 2 hours at 325°F (163°C). Always check for doneness using a meat thermometer.

Can I use lamb breast in a slow cooker?

Yes, lamb breast is an excellent choice for slow cooking. The low and slow method allows the fat to render and the meat to become tender. Simply season the lamb breast, add it to the slow cooker with your choice of vegetables and broth, and cook on low for 6 to 8 hours for optimal results.
