I just bought some Minute Rice this past week so I could try it the next time I make the fajitas. Did you use Minute Rice? I believe that was what the person said to use.

yes I used minute rice

I posted this a while back. My director is the one that told me about it. She said that you can't use a lot of rice, barely enough to cover the bottom of the baker. Instant rice is definitely what you'd want to use.

Thanks Crystal! Yes I think I used too much before. Tonight I am bringing 1/2 a cup in a prep bowl. We will see how it goes!

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I cook rice in the Deep Covered Baker (DCB) for fajitas?

To cook rice in the DCB for fajitas, rinse 1 cup of rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Add the rinsed rice to the DCB along with 2 cups of water or broth, a pinch of salt, and any desired seasonings. Cover the DCB with its lid and microwave on high for 12-15 minutes. Let it sit for 5 minutes before removing the lid to fluff the rice with a fork.

Can I add vegetables or protein while cooking rice in the DCB?

Yes, you can add vegetables or protein to the DCB while cooking rice. For fajitas, consider adding bell peppers, onions, or cooked chicken or beef. Just make sure to adjust the liquid accordingly, as the added ingredients will release moisture during cooking.

What type of rice works best in the DCB for fajitas?

Long-grain white rice or jasmine rice works best in the DCB for fajitas. These types of rice cook evenly and complement the flavors of the fajitas. Avoid using brown rice, as it requires a longer cooking time and more liquid.

How can I enhance the flavor of the rice for fajitas?

To enhance the flavor of the rice, consider using chicken or vegetable broth instead of water. You can also add spices like cumin, chili powder, or lime juice to the cooking liquid. Mixing in fresh cilantro or lime zest after cooking can also elevate the flavor.

What should I do if the rice is undercooked after the initial cooking time?

If the rice is undercooked after the initial cooking time, simply cover the DCB again and microwave in 1-2 minute increments until fully cooked. Be sure to check the liquid level; if it seems low, add a small amount of water before continuing to cook.
